This is firmware version 3.00 for a Kiss DP-450 clone, it has been said that it works 100% on the Kiss DP-450. It was originally meant for HB DX-6526, which is a French version of the Kiss.
Read here:

This looks interesting.
Can anyone confirm it works for the original Kiss DP-450?
Anyway, the link is in French (and I canīt read in French), I will see if I can find an English translation for it.

Quick translation :
- You can use the firmware for the HB DX-6526 on the DP-450
- There should be a firmware update for the DP-450 soon

This firmware works perfectly with the DP-450.
- DivX 3.11 play not always perfectly. Their's some problem when the bitrate is high. But it works..
- MP3 VBR play 100% fluent !! (Even after a "search" or a "pause" )
- BivX are now fully supported (you can select the Audio stream with the audio-menu )
- Their's a new function : "Auto FullScreen". (When you read a DivX with a resolution < 640xXXX, the Zoom is used Automatically. Like VCD & SVCD )
- Subtitles are now centered.
---
But this firmware is not bugfree:
- Their's some Audio problem with some 3.11. Sometimes sound becomes robotic.
- (some) People reported problems with Ac3 & DivX 4/5
- (some) People reported synch problem with some Subs
Official link to the firmware is down (Maybe beccause they are doing 2-3 corrections ). But you can find it here : http://overnetfr.free.fr/kiss/datas/H&B_Firmware_3.0.iso

The DP-500 works fine with ogg so I bet DP-450 also does. It is stated in their FAQ's...

I have tested it on the DP-500 and there is no difference between the DP-500 and 450 exept the network interface. It works flawless :)

Does anyone know, if the Kiss DP-450/DP-500 or LiteOn PhoMaster LVD-2001 supports DivX Movies on a DVD+R (burned as plain ISO 9660 Data DVD)?

look in FAQ
FAQ 7
Q07: What kind of optical medias are supported by the DVD-Player?
A: The following optical medias are supported:
CDDA (Normal music CD's).
CD-R (74min and 80min)
Do not use CD's larger than 80min, doing this may cause the loader to jam shut.
CD-RW (74min and 80min)
Do not use CD's larger than 80min, doing this may cause the loader to jam shut.
DVD-R
DVD-RW
(DVD+R and DVD+RW are not supported by the DVD-Player).

That's wrong. All my DVDs are +RW. And they play perfectly.
Their is a TOSHIBA DVDRom in the KISS DP-450/500 (SD-M1612 RevA, RevB, RevC or SD-M1712 ).
I got the SD-M1712, and it can read DVD+R(W). If I remeber well, the SD-M1612 RevA cannot.. (But I'm not sure. Maybe it's the "RevB" or "RevC" or all SD-M1612 ).
But you can change the DVDRom. You can, for example, replace the TOSHIBA with a LITE-ON. So you can even read 99' CD-R.
-----------
For the OGG, I think that the KISS support only Music CD with OGG. Not OGG in MPEG4.
Maybe it works with the last firmware, I didn't try yet.
But Kiss said that they were working on it... A futur firmware
( They were promissing 3.11, GMC, MP3-VBR, BivX, Subtitles, etc.. And they did it ;-) ).

Sounds very interesting. Does anyone know of a full review of this firmware upgrade. How good is it with Divx 3.11alpha? does it play all of them? any problems?
Is it worth buying now then?
Thanks

Earlier in the string someone asked about where to get the Kiss Player.
I have seen several hardware DivX player at http://www.bigbuyz.com . They are in the US but I believe they ship to Canada as well.
I have a Mecotek and a Kiss. Both play well but the Mecotek is still about 10 days from having 3.11 working. It does cost less though so thats not too big a deal if you ask me.

Ok
Maybe after the special KISS firmware update ( So the KISS becomes ZoneFree & 1/2 macrovision free), the RevA can read +R(W) too.

@seewen
have you tried the divx 3.11 support ? does it work good ?
are there other improvements with avi files like a better fastforward/reverse ?
i have an elta 8882 and im still waiting for the firmware update.
I just recieved one of these little beauties in the post today!
First thing i did was to flash it to the new Firmware (2.6.6 from the official site)
It seems to play my assorted collection of home encoded 3.11 4.xx and 5.xx perfectly.
One question tho; Is there any way to fast forward or rewind in DivX flims?
edit:
Just found the srch button on the remote!! it works well - nice and quick.

Help! I'm having awful trouble with this update.
My 3.11 files play beautifully, but the audio quality (128k/sec stereo 44khz mp3) is severely degraded. Everyone sounds like they have a nasty lisping speech impediment.
Does anyone know what's causing this? Is there anything I can do to prevent it? I've just recieved my Kiss today as a birthday present, and I'm fairly upset that it won't play my files properly at the moment, when I had every reason to believe that it would.
Cheers,
Paul

Hi,
does the Kiss permit to choose aspect ratio? And if so, at your choice or
only one of the well know values?
Does it play correctly files larger than 720x576?
Thanks.

You can configure the KISS 3 ways : 16/9 TV, 4/3 TV or 4/3-anamorphic TV.
That's the only thing you can do. (But if, like me, you have a 16/9 TV, you can encode your DivX in real 16/9, and use the 16/9 mode of your TV. The quality is better than a standard 4/3 )
But pay attention to aspect ratio >2.4 . For me, AR >2.4 are really not nice. I mean their's too much black borders. (usually, I use AR max 2.25. )
Does it play correctly files larger than 720x576?
I've never tried for DivX ( I use DVD as source... )
But for JPEG, file larger than 720x576 are downscaled to 720x576 (more info in the FAQ : http://www.kiss-technology.com/ )
Does it support also DivX-Audio Format(44.1k 64kbps MS Audio)?
No (maybe later... ), nor WMA.
---------
Finally I just read Doom9 news (18.VI.2003). And I could say that the DP-450 :
- Support 5 consecutives B-frames (XviD), very very well.
- KISS-TECHNOLOGY say that max bitrate = 3000, but I have a movie encoded with an average bitrate of 2965 (XviD, with MAX = 4000 ), and it plays perfectly.
- GMC plays perfectly with DivX 5. But with XviD, sometimes their's some jerkiness (But btw, I really prefer to use VHQ ;) )
Again, the KISS DP-450 is one of the best DVD player I have ever seen (and it can read DivX/XviD ;) !!).
