Avi2VCD Software not working

I am a newbie when it comes to encoding and I am having problems trying to encode an .avi file to VCD, using the avi2vcd software. I decompressed the audio and the avi2vcd software is telling me that I don't have acceptable parameters or it cannot be opened. Although pretty self-explanatory I want to know is there any changes that I need to make in order to have this encoded correctly?
