hi. i have an ADI microscan crt monitor, and a while ago every now and again it would turn purple, and then go back to normal. at first i thought it was the speakers, no. then i thought maybe the neighbours had put something on the other side of the wall. no.

well back then i could live with it becuase it was rare, but now it's getting worse. now it's a constant purple, but not as intense as before. everynoe and again it would flicker.,

someone said the monitor is broken, (the green cathode is blown) but that can't be becuase playing freecell i get a solid green background, and you can't get green from red and blue (the other two cathodes). any advice is welcome.

If it flickers in and out I'd be more inclined to think it was a dry solder. Either way it means your monitor is in need of repair/replacement.

hey it works now!! my mum fixed it. she moved the computer a bit forward to clean behind it. turns out dsiplay cables don't like being pressed againt the wall. all i checked was that it was screwed in properly.

FYI. You may also watch out for it to start to get worst. I hope not for your case, but I had 2 monitors in the early/mid 90s that did that same thing. at first I could just wiggle the cable to get it to stop for a few days/weeks, then it would get to where I would have to wedge the cable against something to get it to stop. I even tried switching computers to see if it was the video card or location. Bottom line was, that for my case I eventually had to just replace the monitor. :(

well i've moved the computer away from the wall now so as long as noone pushes it back or puts pressure on the cable then i'm fine.

thanks.
