My question is; Is there anyway I can get Region 2 to play with my Region 1 DVD player? I know I could buy a region free DVD for like 100 dollars but that's alittle more then I'm willing to do.

My only solution that I know of (computer only dvd player) is to change my dvd region setting on my computer to Region 2, rip the DVDs into .avi format and then later change the dvd region setting back to Region 1. - Although other then this idea I don't think there's anything I can do. I'm pretty much an 'apprentice' engineer so I'm no where near qualified to modify my dvd player to be region free.

Well, it’s really all about taking time to find out your exact make and making sure you don't do anything stupid or too hasty. Look on the main page of doom9 for basics and then how to make your DVD player region free. You could use DVD genie , but if all you want to do if rip the DVD then DVD decrypted can rip your DVD whatever region.
