Hi there,
To my regret i am not rocky in all this video stuff, but now have to work a lot and learn at the same time. I've red a lot of material here in DVD2DivX, DV2DivX and Video2DivX sections, and have got two different answers: I capture VHS (PAL), then i work with it in APremiere, put translation of sound and titles. Then I throw results back to VHS. Along side I'd love to compress footage to put it to CD and keep an archive.
VirtualDubMod does that fine, but to calulate the propper bitrate is beyond my comprehension (I've red few different manuals ew times each - couldn't realy get it). GKnot does it automaticaly, more over that - it corrects bitrate between passes, BUT I couldn't make GKnot to crop and resize the footage. I've tried it few times - doesn't work. How do i get it work?

Thanks.

you should use Avisynth to load your video, then you can use the crop and resize filters in it.

I'm guessing, Hiro, but perhaps a2j is seeing a grey preview window in Gknot, rather than an image, since he's using an .avi file as his input source. Cropping and resizing work, it's just that he can't see the results unless he presses the Preview button, running the AviSynth script through Windows Media Player.

But what is the third tab in GKnot? I have "Input Resolution", "Input Pixel Aspect Ratio", "CROP(!!!)", "Output Resolution". Shouldn't the later two work?

It's not quite that, Jggimi, i've set 12 pixels crop form each side on the third tab in GKnot and then in "Output Aspect Ratio" choose 640x512. When I have got resulting avi after 10 hours of waiting, i've found, that crop and resize didn't happen. I've made 1 minute long avi file and tryed to change settings or just play with settings to make it work - IT DOESN'T HAPPEN

Thanks all, now it works. I really had to download Avisynth. You see, it still looks like you speak chineese to me. I didn't know that even if i do not use avisynth obviously, GKnot uses it without me knowing it. NOw it's fine.

May be therี will be some good man to help me go through on private e-mail or even ICQ??? I fixed one problem, got two other problems. It did resize of my 1 minute long sample file, but it gives me a lot of errors when I am trying to work with original file 1 hour 21 minutes long. My ICQ#56433301. For right now I am leaving for another city but may be on weekends someone would be able to chat with me to help me through?
