im getting the packet sync error while importing a damaged mpeg file, which plays fine in media player. how do i fix this error ?
Try to check the "extended options" on the open file thingy and there activate "ignore errors".

If it's a "sync error" then it's because the audio is broken. VirtualDub's MPEG audio decoder is called "Priss," and she's pretty darn strict about what you feed her.
If the audio is broken you'll need to set audio to "No audio" and compress the video by itself. Then you just have to figure out a way to convert the audio separately. Maybe try TMPGEnc to demux it, and Winamp to decode it?

fccHandler thanks for your version. I had the same problem and it opened the mpeg2 file.
