SB Live Platinum (1999) + DTT2500: Anyone using this? Settings?

Hey,
i have some "trouble" finding the right settings for
my speakers when using ac3-spdif-out or watching mp3-audio
movies. Is anyone using the same hardware combination?

I am using a Creative SB Live! Platinum (1999)
with the DTT2500 Speakers from Creative, connected by
Digital DIN and for AC3 SPDIF-Out with the LiveDrive.

Software:
Win2000 Prof SP3
MediaplayerClassic (what else)
Intervideo AC3-Dec (from WinDVD 4.5 Platinum, should be the latest version)
WaveOut as Output device (with anything else, problems)

Usually everything works fine. I am just asking my self,
what settings (in iviaudio/whatever and especially on the speaker-decoder it self (music,movie,fourpoint,stereo,off)).

So, anyone using that?

Read through my tutorial on my website and see if it can be any help. I have the exact setup (sound card/speaker system) you do which is featured in this tutorial. The software featured is an old version of PowerDVD but should still give you a general idea of how to set it up.

Hmm thanks a lot for making such an detailed guide. But i already knew how to connect the speakers ;)

The interesting thing in this guide is, when watching DD5.1 stuff, i have to turn the Music/Movie/Bla settings OFF at the speaker-decoder? Thanks for this one.

I usually turn off Music/Movie/4-Point/Stereo setting when I'm watching something in DD5.1 . It's what was recommended in the paperwork I believe that came with the setup.

I also usually use the Pro-Logic Digital-IN setting by itself when the signal is originally stereo to simulate surround sound. And I don't use the Music/Movie/4-Point/Stereo stuff for that either. The only time I use one is when I use the Stereo option when I'm mixing a 2 channel stereo song/piece so I can hear the independent channels.

Good, but now one of my 5 speakers wrecked. Sound is
only coming out very very silent. I must have been for
month like this but i just noticed now when using the
'Speaker Test' button. When watching a movie, you couldnt
tell which speaker is more or less powerfull.

Manual says:
Playback Levels!
...playing the system continuously at overyl loud,
distorted levels on heavy bass program material may cause
its internal fuse to blow...
Uuuups!

Well, do you have any idea how to open up a single speaker-box?
Warranty is gone for long so want try my luck.

I don't know how to fix a speaker. But did you try switching around the speakers (trying the left front - in the rear right postion etc. by switching the connectors around on the back of the reciever) to make sure it isn't something else? Change around the wiring temporarly from another speaker to just see if it's the wires?

Yes i did that. When watching a movie you almost not notice the damaged
speaker, but when using the 'speaker-test' on the decoder, you see that
the damaged one is much less powerful and there is a big difference
in the volume level.

Found this now in the manual:

Important! Playback Levels

Damn it ;) So, i gave up the repairing-hope and called the creative
european hotline in ireland (kind of expensive). New satellite speaker
is only about 20euro (including shipment), but only per creditcard.

Thanks anyways :) I am just getting a new one, no warranty left.
And i swear i will give my best to blow the other four fuses too.

I've always wondered if I could order individual satelite speakers if I ever blew one. :) I've had the system since 2000 and have always somewhat limited (but not all the time)the amount of volume I feed the speakers because when I bought this thing it cost like $220 ! :eek: I've always wanted to order the larger subwoofer but I guess that'll just have to wait. :)
