View Full Version : BeSweet and AC3 with mixed 2.0 and 5.1 sound?

Hello...

i'm capturing videos from digital satellite (DVB-S in europe) with AC3 audio. The captured movies play fine with e.g. PowerDVD but i want to reduce the bitrate of 5.1 ac3 from 448 to 320 kBit/s for storing the movie on dvd.

I use BeSweet (latest version) to reduce the bitrate of the ac3 file. The input mode is shown (most of the times) as 5.1. But on some files the input mode is shown as 2.0 whereas PowerDVD states 5.1.

Now i've found out, that the movie contains e.g. 1-5s 2.0 audio in front and the rest of the movie is 5.1. It looks like that the 2.0 ac3 "flag" is from the commercial just before the movie and the transmitting station switches a little bit to late (1-5s) to 5.1.

My question: BeSweet states 2.0 input mode but does BeSweet switch to 5.1 input mode if the 5.1 audio is reached? Or must i cut away the first e.g. 5 seconds containing 2.0 ac3 (Most of the time i will do that to get rid of the e.g. "wb logo". But sometimes the movie starts immediately after the commercial).

Regards,

Gerd

PS: Sorry if the question was asked and answered before. I've searched the forum but found nothing which matched my questions.

the only problem i can think of is in the case you set to dpl2 downmix.
