View Full Version : How to Initiatate Conversion After Previously Choosing “Rip only (Batch prepare)”?

Greetings,

Here’s a desperately simple question I’ve searched the guides and forums to answer in vain. Under “Go!” in the Conversion tab of DVD2SVCD one can choose “Rip and convert” or “Rip only (Batch prepare)”. Logically, one would expect a third choice, “Convert only (Previously ripped files)”, but, alas, there is none, and I’ve searched in vain for any instructions on how to have DVD2SVCD pick up the job at the Convert stage once you’ve previously run “Rip only (Batch prepare)”. How is this done? (Told you it was desperately simple.) I would like to rip during the day and convert overnight.

And on the subject of splitting back-up jobs into pieces – am I correct in observing that there seems to be no way to “pause” DVD2SVCD mid-process? There isn’t even a “Quit” or “Exit” button anywhere that I can find. Suppose you need to stop a ten-hour back-up job and would like to come back to it later without starting from the beginning. The only way out I’ve been able to think of is to shut down the program with Task Manager (simply toggling “Close” won’t close it down) and come back later and pick it up at the nearest crash recovery point. This seems awfully brutal.

Thanks,

Milehigh

For your first question, you simply disable ripping in the Rip tab, then you will get the option to convert only.

Secondly, you are correct. There is no way to pause the process. Your best chance is to stop and use crash recovery later, but it's dangerous for a number of reasons. It's also largely useless, since the bulk of conversion time is spent in CCE, and that process cannot be paused.

It is in the program files menu. There you can edit or run the batch file. All explained in the readme file.

Thanks, Ultimate DBZ,

It's amusing that the "Start conversion" choice only appears under the "Go!" button once you have deselected "Activate DVD ripping" in the DVD Rip tab and loaded an IFO. If it were there all the time and simply ghosted out when not appropriate, newbies like myself learning the ins and outs would see it there - just where it should be!

Oh, well. If it was a walk in the park, there'd be no use for forums, eh? ;)

Can't find the reference in the readme file indicated by dvd2svcd but thanks.
