View Full Version : What to do if one wants to open DVD from HD with DvdDecrypter?

OK - another feat I cannot do with DVDDecrypter. I backuped whole DVDs on my HD. Now I want to demux only certain movies and only certain streams. In SmartRipper I can simply define source in directory instead on DVD drive only. But I cannot see a way to tell DvdDecrypter to use a directory on HD as a source?

If there aren't any way consider this a new feat request.:D

Decrypter is capable of dvd mounting either physical or as an image. Use Imgtools to turn your folder into an image and mount it using deamon tools. The virtual created drive is equivalent to a physical one. U can then rip and demux from there.

Ummm- thx for the tip but I know that already. I was wondering if there is more direct way to access those files like in SmartRipper. I guess it shouldn't represent too much of a problem to add that feat... Lightninig UK?:sly:

Actually it is. DVD Decrypter works at a lower level whereby it communicated directly with the drive instead of going via the OS and taking its word for things. Reading files is not possible.

All of your posts have been about comparing DVD Decrypter to SmartRipper. If you like SmartRipper so much, why dont you just stick with it?!

I am not comparing SR vs DD as it is obvious that DD is superior to smart ripper in several ways. I simply asked why it's not possible to access files on HD...:rolleyes:

Anyway- I thought it was pretty much obvious I am now using DD more than SR- my statements were not intended to be comparison but simply a statement that DD is lacking certain feature. So I will use DD for everything but it seems I'am stuck with SR when I have to process files already on HD...
So you see I don't want to stick with SR but I am in a way stuck with it...:p

Well if you're switching over to DVD Decrypter, you'll soon learn to use ISO mode to 'backup' the disc to your hdd instead of your current method (?) of ripping all the files?

You can mount the ISO DVD Decrypter makes in DAEMON Tools and then continue to rip from its virtual drive whenever you like, allowing further processing.
