hello there..

I have been checking out my codecs and there are couple cases which iam not sure where they came from.

http://www.turixline.fi/legionkondor/pictures/vide_codecs

1. Huffyuv lossless codec ?

2. ir41_32.ax ?

3. iyuv_32.dll ?

I dont know where the huffyuv codec came from but there is same named program in my add/remove programs tab..

Iam using Windows XP sp1

I have installed gordian knot.

Do I need these codecs or is it safe to remove em??

Thanks :)

sorry i do not know about 2) and 3), but you do not need huffyuv to playback divx/xvid files. it is a lossless coded as it's name says and is mostly used for capturing analoge video sources. if you do not do that, i see no reason why you would have to keep it...

iyuv_32.dll = Intel Indeo(R) Video YUV Codec
ir41_32.ax = Intel Indeo Video decompressor
Found this link:
http://www.ligos.com/indeo.htm

"With the September 2002 update to Windows XP (known as Service Pack 1), Microsoft suspended distribution of the Indeo codecs as a base part of its operating system. This only affects users with new PCs that are shipping with Windows XP Service Pack 1, or clean installs of Windows XP SP1 on an older system. Unfortunately, a number of game and multimedia titles require Indeo to be installed on the OS in order to function."

They were installed as part of Windows.
If they really bother you, you could get rid of them,
but they might just be needed one day.

For example you cannot play mafia without those installed.

but from a a/v standpoint you can remove them!

keep them, ´cause there are enough weird apps
and you never know if some day some app needs them
