i havent been on for a while so im just catching up with the posts, ive had a quick browse through but couldnt find what i was looking for so here goes, has anyone tried using dvdshrink to compress the extras on a dvd but leave it all intact and also leave the movie at no compression then run it through ic to get a bit better quality,my friend uses ic for everything and only uses the auto resize i was very suprised that when he did atoc r2 it was excellent viewed on a 32" screen no blocks etc.however i personally like keeping everything but like to squeeze every drop of quality out of the main movie,so what do ya think?

fusion007,

I use this exact method for "quick and dirty" backups of DVD's under 5GB. (using the DoItFast4U, CCE method... for anything larger).

Just run it thru DVDSrhink and compress the beejesus (technichal term) out of the extras (incl "still-movie" and remove audio from any that you don't want to watch). Remove any unwanted audio's and subs from main-movie but leave video at 100% (NO compression).

Then import to resulting directory into IC7, set the already encoded extras to 100% and tweak your settings up on the main movie. Press Go and come back in 2-3 hours.

Sure, there are more "pure" ways of keeping the whole DVD structure and compressing it onto 1 x DVD-R, but this is quick and works well where the whole DVD is around 5GB or less.

IMO, any compression greater than L1 in DVDShrink is noticlelbly ugly compared side-by-side with IC7. Even L1 is streching the friendship.

Cheers.

Grover,

I too like IC7 for the quality. I'm having a problem with the automatic resize feature. It's not resizing the DVD. It just keeps it the same size as the original.

I've stopped using Shrink to resize, except 1% to keep the quality. I only use Shrink to strip out any extras that I don't want or to crop out what I don't want either.

Any problems with the automatic resize feature in IC??
