I have bought a dvd buner from nec the dual drive wich supports all media but he refuses to burn 4 speeds datawrite discs, the manufacter id is princo(says a lot i think) but in my sony dual drive they work perfect,i tried an very old no name dvd-r 1x in it and burned it on 2 speed and it worked great. Anyone knows if their are more problems with certain dvd-r 4 speeds. I also destroyed 2 datawrite dvd+r with it when i burned with alcohol 120% and those discs never have left me down in my sony burner where i burned about 800 datawrite +r in.
I hope their comes an firmware update that fixes this problem otherwise i'll sell it and buy an second sony burner. Have other people also had the same problems with 4 speed dvd-r's

hi there, i bought the same drive this saturday, and had datawrites 4speed since 2 weeks cause i planned on buying a sony drive earlier but it was sold out everywhere, and indeed when i tried to burn them, they were not recognized as acceptable media, couldn't burn them either...
i ordered some Fuji, Verbatim, Sentinel & Princo, i will post their results later, today i tried a Nashua DVD+R 2.4 speed and it worked quite good, burn proces took 22 minutes, i used it to backup files, checked them all everything works :)
i mailed NEC about the datawrites not being accepted and that i wanted upgraded firmware, this was the answer:

dear Mr. [X],

pls. use recommended medias for optimal burning results.
(See attached file: Medialist ND-1300A.pdf)
If we get new firmware you can download it here:

Hello,Yeah that's pretty lame, the nec writes datawrite 2.4 plus r's perfectly just like the sony,i think ur princo's will behave like the datawrite because it's the same manufacter. It's really bad of the datawrite 4 speeds cause their cheaper then the other datawrite(grey top manufacter ritek). By the way did u use datawrite classics just like me or other ones? Hope u can post the results soon. Here it's almost impossible to try a few of each brand because usually they go in packages of 25 so bummer if they don't work properly.

I'm using datawrite dvd+r and without problems. The media has a black yellow label and speed is 2.4 burner NEC 1100a.:(

i have the red datawrite classic 4x dvd+r's that don't work on the 1300A
and about buying some stuff: if your location is real, (NL), try www.opus.nl they sell almost everything also per 1 and the delivering costs aren't that high, they have most choice of the netherlands i guess & best service :)

No Insult taken. I like to be seen as a human beeing and there are more out there.
In Amsterdam you find the resellers of datawrite they make the price the same for all resellers on the fair. Meaning the price is everywhere on the fair the same.

Now i also bought some that's write dvd-r's (manufacter id is leaddata) and they also refuse to work on the nec burner, and the datawrites (+r)are screwed after burning beacause i got artifacts all te time while my sony still works fine with all dvd-r and dvd+r,i think i'm going to sell the nec and buy a second sony or wait for the pioneer a-06 beacuse this is crap for a burner.

If you guys just do a simple search on the web using google you'll find firmware for the NEC 1300a that lets it write on all these generic media you've been having trouble with.

Thanks for the info but i already sold the burner,no i have the sony and the pioneer 106,i assume th enew plextor 8x speed dvd+r is also a nec burner like the plextor 504 is a nec 1100a burner.
and is the firmware u mentioned the original firmware?
I don't lik eto put another firmware on it except the original ones.

There are two firmwares out there, one is a hacked version written by a european programmer, and the other is the official one that came out recently. The official one is 106 and it does support a lot of generic disks like Ritek G03 etc. But the hacked one also supports everything else.

Since I write firmware for a living I have no qualms about trying out someone's "hacked" firmware if several others have tried it with happy results :)

anyway the point is moot since you already got rid of it, but hopefully if others see this they'll know there's an alternative to selling it or returning the drive.

Thanks for the post about firmware - know where it is ?
I just upgraded my drive to orig 1.06 but still have a few types of Blanc that wont burn.
HiSpace 2x -R fails
HiSpace 2x +r works
Speer 4x +R works
Speer 4x -R works
Speer 2x -R fails

I also didn't see a possibility to go back to as earlier Firmware if its no good...

http://herrie.rpc1.org/

I already installed Herrie's latest firmware. i booted up using a windows ME startup disk and ran the flash program. So far its been running great. I tried out a Ritek G04 and it burned it at 4x speed. I then watched about 80% of it (didn't feel like watching the entire thing). I skipped to the end and made sure the end was ok. No pixellation, not skips nothing! it seems to play flawlessly.

Once these Ritek's run out I'm going to get some DupEZ's since people have had good luck with them according to vcdhelp's database.
