Sorry if this has already been asked and answered. I found lots of threads about putting a two dvd set onto one dvd, but nothing about this.
I have Pearl Harbor. I would like to combine the main movie (5.95 Gb on disc 1 and 2.03 Gb on disc 2) into 7.99 Gb and split it uncompressed between two discs. I don't care about menus or chapter selections. I would like to keep the subs and the original chapter locations intact.
What is the easiest way to do something like this?
TIA

This is going to sound stupid but you're still going to be using 2 disks at the end anyways , even if you did combine and resplit the way you preferred. So why make the task harder for you? Just do a movie only for each disk if you don't want the menus.
2 for 2? That's like saying you want to copy 1 DVD to 1 DVD (1 for 1).
The only sense I see you doing this is that you are deeply into feng shui and you feel spiritually unbalanced if one disk has more than the other.

Maybe I didn't make this part clear.
The main movie is 5.95 Gb on disc 1 and 2.03 Gb on disc 2. The rest of the stuff on disc 2 is junk I'm not interested in keeping. I could just compress disc 1 but it would be pretty heavy compression.
Comprende?

First, thanks to the mod who moved this for me!
I think (keeping my fingers crossed) that I've got it. I'll share my results as soon as I get some.

could you use the 'join clips' method?
once you've joined the vobs of the main movie from both discs, create IFOs with IFOedit, then split with IFOedit.
I think this should work from what i've read - let us know how you get on :)

Yeah, i joined the vobs with vobedit. Split them with ifoedit. Worked fine!
But the create ifo option creates 80 chapters instead of 46 and I haven't figured out how to modify the chapters in ifoedit yet. Plus, the subs come out sort of smeared looking and too dark to read.

Maybe the following is an option:
extract the m2v and ac3 files and subs from both disc one and two. Join those together some way (maybe while reauthoring). Or jouin the vobs first like you did now.
Reauthor those files using maestro/scenarist into one disc, which will be more then 4,37 GB.
Then split this over two discs like you would do normally (using ifoedit?)

Fixing the subs was easy. Now, if I can just figure out how to modify the chapters I'm set.
BTW what does a "discontinuity entry at sector ####" mean?

Got it! And they worked BEAUTIFULLY in my stand-alone. If anyone else is interested, I will be happy to share my methodology.

1. I ripped the discs with DVDDecryptor using stream processing to get just the video & the English 5.1 audio and English subtitles I wanted.
2. I used FileMerger off Doom9's "Useful Software" page to merge all the vobs into one huge vob.
3. I used vobedit's join function to split up the merged vob.
4. I used ifoedit to create the ifo files.
5. I used ifoedit to split it into two discs.
6. I used ifoedit to correct the subtitle color settings.
7. I used ifoedit to change the unspecified audio and subtitle to English.
8. I used ifoedit to correct the chapters.
Viola - Pearl Harbor split perfectly onto two discs with NO compression!
As you can see, all I used were free tools: DVDDecryptor, FileMerger, vobedit, & ifoedit. If you need specific directions on correcting the subtitle color or chapters with ifoedit, just ask!
