View Full Version : Dvdshrink: mixed results with subtitle elimination, Matrix problems

using ifoedit to eliminate subtitles thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=45440) I've been able to get rid of subtitles after DVDshrinking, but now I'm getting confused about what is the most reliable way to go eliminate subtitles and have the dvd play in my Apex 600a.

I first tried dvdshrinking Mulholland Drive. I found that if I used Ifoedit to create new ifo files, then added the precommand described in the thread, it worked fine in both my computer and my Apex.

However, using the same procedure with the Matrix I get an "invalid entry" and it won't start in the Apex, even though it plays fine on my comp.

I think that one difference may be that when I reencode the Matrix Dvdshrink finds "unreferenced audio or subpicture streams" and removes them during reencoding. I don't think that happened with other dvds that have worked. Is that the problem?

Anyway, I've now tried these alternatives on the Matrix:
1. I use Dvd shrink on the main vobs, then modify the main ifo by adding the Set Subpicture precommand , then get vts sectors, then save. I get errors when I save, "there's something wrong, the file position doesn't match the offset etc." There are two more error messages like this.
2. Shrink, modify with subpicture, then try to save before getting vts sectors. I get the same errors.
3. Shrink, construct new ifos with ifoedit, modify those ifos with the set subpicture command (ifoedit eliminates the program command table, so there's only the set subpicture line that I add). It doesn't play in the Apex ("invalid entry'), fine on my computer.
4. Shrink, construct new ifos, modify them, get vts sectors. It doesn't play in the Apex, fine on my computer.

What I'm most confused about is why, when I use ifoedit to redo the ifos and then can successfully save, I create a Matrix copy which doesn't work in my Apex. Is Ifoedit missing something? Is there a foolproof way to do this?

I'm very new at this, but I think DVDShrink can eliminate subtitles for you. Under the customize streams section you should be able to uncheck subpicture.

You may not need to use IFOedit for that part.

Thanks, but I don't believe that works. When I first tried to do Mulholland Drive, I eliminated the subpictures within Shrink but still got them. They were only removed by the Set setting.
