Quick question on GOPs

I just wanted to ask if GOP segments must be present in every vob. I would really appreciate if any one knows this for sure.

According to the MPEG2 spec, GOP headers are optional. I can't tell you what the actual practice is for DVD VOBs, however.

Thanks for your reply. I discovered that all commercial DVDs have GOP headers.

You MUST have them for a DVD and you can ignore them for a SVCD.
I made one DVD-image without them and my video "went nuts":
speeded up, halted, jumped forward and such things.

It was fun to watch this, but it was no movie any more...;)
