Ok, I'm new. I've been waiting to post. I've searched. I've almost found. But I haven't completely found.

I can't delete, rename, or modify my divx files. I've searched this forum and found a similar problem posted, but the solutions there didn't help me.

I've tried:
-Clicking and waiting for XP to assemble the file for preview
-Using another file browsing program so that it wouldn't preview
-Even using the DOS emulator to try and delete the file
-Uninstalling and reinstalling different versions of the divx codec

I keep getting an error that a program is using the file, but I have none open. I think it's a codec problem because after I used GordianKnot, this happened. I'm not talking just the files that I created, but all of them on my computer. Ones that I've had for a long time. I used to be able to rename them and the like, but now I can't. They aren't large files, some aren't even a megabyte. Can someone please help me? I don't like losing control like this.

You can delete or rename anything if you boot to a command line (not a command line inside of XP).

I had the same problem. What I did was this: Opened command prompt, terminated explorer.exe and then I could delete it! :)
