I have found a method that works well for me to convert my LDs that are not available on DVD to DVD. I tried different ways of capturing the signal and dealing with the interlacing issues and finally settled with capturing LDs (NTSC) to my digital camcorder (SVHS) and feeding the signal to my computer via firewire to Premiere 6.5. I use Premiere to join the clips together and export movie only to CCE plugin (2.67)for Premiere and do 4 rounds VBR with pulldown checked. This gives me good quality video that is deinterlaced.
My only issue with this method is the aspect ratio. The original LDs are LBX with black bars added to make them 4:3 aspect ratio and the TV set is used to get the aspect ratio correct. I would like to crop some of the black bars and make the DVD anamorphic. I dont think CCE does cropping, if I let Premiere do the cropping before CCE does its IVTC I get interlacing problems (probably because the frames are stretched). Ideally the cropping needs to be done after IVTC. Is there a way to crop an m2v file without re-encoding (I know TMPG does cropping but it is so much slower than CCE)
Maybe I'm missing something really obvious here.
