I have these vob files of a DVD which has been split to 2 DVD's. This has been done this to keep the quality of the movie. I am guessing that IfoEdit has been used to split it into two DVD's ..now what i was wondering was can i use vobedit ..to join back the split files into one DVD again ...I wanna join them and then simply re-encode....I guess i will use the "joining double sided dvd's" guide at the ifoedit site.

Well having used the guide eveything went fine when it came to joining the vobs.....however i am having problems with the IFO files and the menu vob.....I tried the first method (according to the guide) which was to create new ifo files.....after that when i used "get vts sectors" i got an error about the ifo files not having menu tables (menu data) and that the menu vob would cause a problem.

So i thought let me try the second way which is to keep the ifo's (from the orginal split dvd) as it is and just use 'get vts", well the "get vts" worked. However, the menu works....but when i play the movie it still plays the first part.....and does not continue further!!! It does not realize that the other vobs joined are still a part of the construction ....I took the video_ts/ifo/bup files from Disc 1 from the split DVD.....so i am guessing that that would be the correct files to take ....so i am simply stuck .....

How are you supposed to go about the menu ifos and vobs ...when joining back split DVD's so that the menu works as it should like it was from the original (single) dvd. What should you pay attention to???? How can i solve this menu data issue???

I also thought about the factor that even if i strip it i will have to re-encode the movie so I still have to get the chapters from one of the ifo files (for the re-encoding with CCE)..would it be from CD1 or from CD2 ...The vts1 ifo of cd1 is 72kb and the vts1 ifo of CD2 is 78kb ..is that normal after someone splits a DVD into two...so which one would you use to get your chapters from???...I have no clue which one has the original chapters from the two ifo's...i did look at them and cd2 has more chapters in it that cd1 ifo........and that the last chapter has been deleted or something......anyone with any ideas??

Firstly I have a similar problem but maybe I can help you. The problem I have is that I can recreate the information but I need a bigger .ifo file. When the disc was split the additional chapter information was removed (if there were 50 chapters and it was split each of the new files only has 25 chapters). Now if you use ifoedit to create a new ifo file then it will find the complete set of chapters which is what you want. However, if you edit one of the split .ifo files it is easy to adjust the number of chapters / cells etc so that you have the right amount but with empty data. Technically you can then use ifoupdate to merge the cell info from the ifo created with ifoedit into the split one that you have adjusted. However, and this is my problem, if the original ifo was say 150 kb and the split ones lets say 90 kb I can find no way of expanding the 90 to 150. Therefore when you try and copy 150 kb of cell info into 90 kb files you get crossed data and gibberish in the cell addresses. The other way, which is slightly more successful is to take the newly created ifo and merge the menu data from one of the original files. This kind of works for single PGCs although parts of the menu can be problematic but is a very difficult technique for multi PGCs.

If you sort it let me know.

I'm also currently trying to work out this problem, so close but still not there..

Here's what I did:

- Used VobEdit to join the clips together
- Used IfoEdit on the newly joined VOB's and had it create new Ifo's (for chapters)
- Re-encoded
- Scenchap - loaded the newly created Ifo that has all chapter points
- Authored

So now like you guys I'm stuck with figuring out how to get the menu to work again. I have a VIDEO_TS.VOB and a VTS_01_0.VOB to work with.. I decided to simply copy over the original VIDEO_TS.IFO, no problems there, but there was work needed to be done on VTS_01_0.IFO

What I've tried so far is loading the authored Ifo in IfoEdit and selected Merge Menu Tables and selected the Original Ifo (the very first one that was split) This corrected the menu loading problem, Get VTS Sectors worked, menu loaded, buttons worked, only thing that was off was the chapter selection menu.. the second set of chapters wouldn't work from the menu but fine within the movie, and there was a little video clip that loaded on the original just before the menu that I couldn't figure out how to get to load, no biggy but I'm one of them perfectionist types :)

So I thought I'd experiment and try updating the original split Ifo (vts_01_0.ifo) with the new Cell info, took awhile to add in 30 Cells, but got it all.. Used IfoUpdate on it, Get VTS Sectors.. everything started to work perfect, but menu buttons don't work (as in doesn't take you anywhere, just reloops the current menu) and chapters are way off! In fact I get illegal navigations when trying to get to use the second set of chapters..

Anyone have any other ideas? Both times was so close, just little things were off..
