Hi,

just got my copy of James Bond "Die Another Day" and now of course
want to create a full backup of it. I have done several multi-PGC
titles before with Maestro and IfoUpdate in adjusted cell mode but
this one is giving me a hard time because it's multi-angle in
addition. I'm attaching the IFO in the next message because it's too long.

Angle 2 plays the "MI6 stream" at times during the movie, where you
can see how the scene was shot and actors are commenting on it.
Similar to the White Rabbit feature in The Matrix.

So I have already everything broken out by VobId and was thinking it
would be best to encode every VobId separately and then in Maestro,
concatenate the main movie pieces in 1st video track and use
Maestro's "Mixed Angle" mode for the MI6 stream pieces (because not
the entire movie is multi angle, only some parts). That is, add
markers at the end of each main movie piece so I can snap the
corresponding MI6 piece in the 2nd video track at appropriate places.

Well, so far so good, the only problem is the audio. Maestro does
not allow you to use a different piece of audio for an angle, there
is only this one audio track. Of course, when I extract the AC3 from
a pair of "matching" VobIds for Angle 1 and 2, the audio is
different (normal movie audio vs. actors comments).

So how did they get the audio to "interleave" like the multi angle
video on the original disk? Maybe it's done via that second
large "duplicate" PGC, but then I have no idea how :) I have read
the Scenarist and Maestro guides around here and also consulted the
manuals of both programs, but can't see any immediate solution.

Scenarist does not seem to have that Mixed Angle mode at all, seems
like you'll have to have two complete movies of the same length if
you want multiple angles (which of course is pointless because of
the limited DVD-R space).

Sorry if I'm missing something obvious and thanks for any help.

You already gave the answer yourself I think.

Teh two pgcs look exactly the same, but probably pgc1 contains angle 1 'regular' audio and angle 2 contains angle 2 'mi6' audio.

Using scenarist?:

SO you split everything by vobid and create tracks for all the vobids in scenarist. for pgc13 you create a multiangle track with audio 1 and for pgc14 you create a multiangle track with audio 2.

Thanks for the reply. I have Scenarist, but am an absolute rookie here, was always using Maestro so far.

So, what you suggest will not force me to have duplicate pieces of video and audio in the project, right? OK, I'll try to make my way through this over the weekend.

I would have to admit this calls for Scenarist.

I would like to ask one thing though. How r u going to overcome the missing frames at the end of each d2v project? 5 frames missing would possitively add a glitche every 5 mins or so.

influenza
16th May 2003, 16:51
What do you exactly mean by missing frames?

RB
16th May 2003, 18:53
See this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44150) in the DVD2AVI forum. Basically, and maybe this happens only for PAL, DVD2AVI seems to always drop the last 3 (sometimes 5) frames when saving the project.

The way I am going to solve this is either hand editing the D2V to add the missing "2"'s at the end or not use DVD2AVI at all but use Nic's MPEGDecoder.dll with the "nod2v" option and the other option that tells it the number of frames. Both are a major pain in the lower back...

Ok, I didn't know that, nor noticed any problems with titles that are split by vobid.

So did you manage to reauthor it?

RB
20th May 2003, 08:35
Not yet. I wanted to work on the new CCE FAQ first (which is now online). But I'll get to it later this week. Anyway, I just used the latest IC7 update to back up the disk and see how it goes and it came out in very good quality (though some slight blocking artifacts are visible in dark scenes). Curious how the CCE backup will look...

different (normal movie audio vs. actors comments).

I ve read your post several times trying to understand the meaning of the audio problem u have and I don't get it. Why u can't use the track that contains the director's comments of MI6 for this purpose for each angle? I am sure there is something that I miss here.

I don't know about maestro, but what the problem seems to be is that the layout is:

angle1: stream 1 audio x
angle2: stream 1 audio y

I don't know if it's possible to add two different audio streams, both having stream id 0x80 within the same piece of video. In scenarist it's not as far as I know.

So in scenarist I would create the following two tracks:

track 1: angle1, audio x
angle2. audio x

track 2: angle1, audio y
angle2, audio y

in pgc 1 use track 1
in pgc 2 use track 2

if there's an other way I would like to know about that.

influenza is exactly right. While in Maestro "Mixed Angle" mode, you can lay out the video like this

+---------+---------+---------+---------+
| Angle 1 | Angle 1 | Angle 1 | Angle 1 |
+---------+---------+---------+---------+ ....
| Angle 2 | | Angle 2 |
+---------+ +---------+ ....

you can't do the same for the audio, so that when you switch angles the audio also switches to another "audio angle". And apart from that I don't know how I'd recreate this second duplicate PGC in Maestro.

I think in Scenarist you'll have to actually author at the VobId level (not sure what I'm talking about because I rarely used Scenarist :) ) and make the PGCs up from the VobIds and assign the right piece of audio to each VobId.

I was mentioning tracks in my reply, but those represent in fact vobids in this case, since it has te be reauthored by vobid.

I have the dvd myself now and out of curiosity I'll see if I can reauthor it.

I'll let you know if I succeeded, maybe I have an hour left tonight and you'll know tomorrow then.

Well I gave it a try yesterday, but no luck so far.

What I did

created two tracks for every angle. Track1 has the movie sound and track 2 has the sound of the extras.

When recreating PGC 13 no probs. But when creating pgc14 using track2 I get the following error:
Error Scene<VTS__01_V05.16~9_1-t_1-sc> and <VTS__01_V07.16~9_1-t-scn> <VTS_1(VTS Title Domain)> would be connected Seamlessly but the following conditions are illegal:
Error Logically Adjacent is No.(see DVD Book VI3-85)

I then try to set the cell of the vobid before the angle to seamless but I cannot do that? I can only select non seamless.

An other option would be to create just one track and add the audio not to stream 1, but to for example stream 5 and after compiling tweaking the ifo, but this would mean that the structure of the dvd is not the same anymore

RB
22nd May 2003, 19:33
Hmm ... maybe it must be somehow connected non-seamlessly? Trilight, are you there? :)

Well, one thing I noticed with the IC7 backup (which had PUOs removed due to ripping with DVDDecrypter) was that unlike with the original disk, my player popped up the Angle symbol when the MI6 stream was available in Angle 2. However, pressing the Angle button on the remote completely froze the player, I had to turn it off and back on.

there must be a way around it, but I don't see how. I'm really curious how they did this audio thing.

Maybe we'll have to wait a couple of weeks more, when the NTSC version is out. Let's hope they did it the same way and some mor epeople can take a look at it.

If all you want to do is back up the main movie, check out the thread here:

http://www.dvdrhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=158824&highlight=

What I don't think it says is I was lazy and used DVD2ONE to get the final file sizes down to DVD-R friendly ones. But that is how I did it - knocking out the rogue cell ID's did the trick.

doing a create sync audio on two tracks will let you do the audio similar to that, and you'll have to use a command sequence at the start and end of each multiangle part, unless you duplicate the whole audio for the whole movie, or something like that.

@auenf:

Is it possible to use different audio streams fro both angles?

So angle 1 has audio stream X (movie sound)
and angle 2 has audio stream y (Commentary)
(on the same stream id, so both 0x80 in this case)

If so I would to have some more info.

auenf
23rd May 2003, 16:14
on the same streamid, no

but there are two ways around it:

disable the angle switching, and have two PGC's, one with angle 1 and audio 1 forced, the 2nd have angle 2 and audio 2 forced. (use the a angle menu to choose between the two)

or

have chapter points at the start and end of each angle thing, and based on a GPRM (or the Angle SRPM) change the angle and/or audio stream in a command sequence linked to at the chapter start/end points (not sure if that will cause a slight layer break style hiccup.

I was thinking about method 1 myself. Only thing then is that you can't swith the angle real time then( and I'm not sure if it's possible in the original!).

The second method i'm not very familiar with. Don't know too much about command sequences (any information to be found?). But this would mean I have to reathor the menu too I think?

auenf
23rd May 2003, 16:26
depends on how the menu is now, but with a command sequence, you can basically say (at the start of the multiangle)

if GPRM1 is 1
Set Audio to 2nd stream
set angle to 2nd stream
resume

but it looks a bit more sophisticated in code ;)
of course you would set the GPRM1 to 0 or 1 when the movie playback started ;)

the 2nd method is a bit trickier, and ive probably overlooked some things too, but sounds like the original used the first method anyway?

Enf...

influenza
23rd May 2003, 16:28
I'll check tomorrow if it's possible to switch the angles realtime in the original. If not we can safely say that method 1 is used I think.

influenza
24th May 2003, 08:48
I checked it out and realtime switching is possible in the original :).

Method one will not work (see error message I put earlier).

If i look at the ifo files for the movie then I see the following precommands:

pgc13
(setstn) set angle stream:1
set <gpreg2> mov (set-val)<1>

pgc14
setstn) set angle stream:2
set <gpreg2> mov (set-val)<2>

So I guess I have to do something with this.

Sorry to resurrect dead threads (rather noobish I know). BUT, I do have a very worth while reason, at least I thought so. Ya see, one of your main assumptions was incorrect, angles CAN have different audio streams. This is described in the scenarist manual, so I know its possible in scenarist, havent the faintest about maestro though...

In the Track Editor timeline, select the scene at the beginning of the scene stream. In the Property Browser specify the Angle Type:
Seamless All angles share the same audio and subpicture streams. Viewers can seamlessly switch to a different angle with no interruption in playback. This option is appropriate for music videos with multiple angles can that can be selected without stopping the flow of music.

Non-seamless All angles can have their own audio and subpicture streams. Viewers can switch non-seamlessly to a different angle with an interruption in playback. Use this option if you want the viewer to experience different audio or music with each angle.

Again, sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but I couldnt find a satisfactory answer anywhere else on this forum. And this thread seemed like it was going where I wanted to get... Just thought I'd share the answer that I found, if its generally known already many apologies.

It's a very interseting suggestion (I've seen it before, but it's most definately not obsolete). I just don't see where to set the non-seamless flag with scenarist. I need to try it out, but I've never seen it. It would certainly be the solution.

Tobytl
1st July 2003, 14:00
To set the angle as non-seamless, go to the track editor and open a track that you wish to be multi-angle. If ya havent laid out the angle yet click the add angle button, if ya have it doesnt matter. Click the first scene in the scene stream (the stream at the bottum of the track editor). In the property browser (the small pane in the lower middle of the window) look for an option called Angle Type, set that to non-seamless. Any already added audio and subtitle tracks get sent to the main video. To edit the tracks of the other angle, simply click its play item (the picture or gray area in its video stream).

It does seemingly work well, at least on the R1 disc im using.

What I remember is ripping by vobid and when creating the angles setting those to non seamless.

But maybe we can help you some more if you share your problems :sly:

Thanks for the reply,
Well my problem is that i just never did this kind of movie before. I used to do the authoring manually in Scenerist before the big 3. Its a while but i think i still remembers how i used to put all that together. Just dont know what to do with those two PGCs of the same length. Iwill try it manually and let you know the exact problems. But if you can give me an outline what you did that'll be a great help,
Thanks again.

1) demux by vobid using dif4u
2) encode
3) Recreate the exact same structure in scenarist (for help on this check http://dvdguides.trilight.net
4) when creating the angles make sure you set them to non seamless to be able to add more then one audio stream (one audio stream to each angle that is).
5) compile
