View Full Version : Sharp Resizing Filter
I pretty much figured out what is and how Bicubic resizing works... But there is a new name in town named "Lanczos" or so... It appears to be sharp and Sharp Bicubic... Is there a huge defference between these two ???

Lanczos will give you slightly better quality, but is a bit slower. I wouldn't call the difference huge, but if you have problems with 'ringing' in sharp bicubic, then Lanczos is much less affected by such problems.
Hm... "ringing" ??? What is the "ringing" ???

Look at the transitions between the colorbars in this example:colorbars(100,75)
LanczosResize(500,375)Changing Lanczos resize to sharp bicubic will make the ringing more noticeable while using neutral or soft bicubic will make the transitions soft. It is called ringing because often it is most noticeable when you have round objects, because you get rings around them.
lanczos will give you a sharper image but this also means less compressibility!
