How to deinterlace PAL capture?

Hi!

I have just started capturing video with my geforceTI4600 and I use Virtualdub. Most of the times I capture high-res video(720*576).

The video I get i always interlaced and my question is how to deinterlace the best way?

I've tried the deinterlace filter in Vdub but that's not the best way to do it, or is it???

Another thing, can someone please post links to some samples of their captured video. I don't know if my capture have good quality because I have nothing to compare to. :rolleyes:

Read BaronVlad's capture guide (and follow it). You can always try other deinterlacer algos by your own.

1- null transform (crop....)
2- swap fields
3- deinterlace (blend)

Coincidently I have the same question.
I use a GeForce TI-4400 for captures with VirtualDub too.
I really don't know how to use deinterlace.
I know that there are better filters like Smart De-interlace.
I just READ that Guide you talked, but just in the most important part (for me) which would talk about de-interlacing filters, it wrote nothing!
It talks about Null-transforms and forgot about De-interlacing.
And the worst problem:
Since I capture on HUFFYUV in 720X... Later, I need to encode it to Xvid 2-passes.
So, we got to a big question here: Should I enable de-interlace filter on VirtualDub just in the 1-pass, or only on 2-pass ? And BTW, should I encode in Fast recompress or Full Processing ? Or fast recompress the first pass and full processing the 2-pass ???

If you're using Vdub filters, then you must use full processing. If you run the input through AviSynth, you can do the deinterlacing there, more flexibly, and use fast recompress when encoding.

And yes, use the same filters in all passes for MPEG-4 codecs like Xvid.

A guide that might be some help, focused on MPEG-4 conversions from DVD MPEG-2, is www.doom9.org/ivtc-tut.htm. It covers inverse telecining as well as deinterlacing, and has a pretty good PAL section. It might help, because it has a good discussion of AviSynth filters for deinterlacing.

It sounds to me like you need progressive scan. Try

You may try realtime deinterlace during playback.
I used ffshow filter and zoomplayer. Then use dscaler plugin and greedy2frame/videodeinterlace 2 frame with very good result.
