I was considering selling my dvd burner because in order to make backups of my dvds..I'd have to split my movie up onto 2 dvds...rather bothersome to watch a movie only for it to cut out halfway through so you can put the 2nd dvd in. (in order to keep dvd quality)

So my question is. Are there any plans in the near future for dvd-r's with a higher capacity? Ones that will be able to hold a single dvd movie without losing any quality?

GhostPoet,

If you do a search of the forum, you'll find lots of times users have asked "why don't we have a 9.4gb drive" or similar. You'll also see some plain (and complicated) answers.

Bottom line: With current technology and current recording format, 4.7gb is max for a DVD-R. It will remain the max until the next format/technology (like Blue Ray) comes to market.
