OK, learned one for myself...
I had been under the false assumption that all interlaced stuff had to be deinterlaced to go CCE to DVDMaestro using NTSC source going to NTSC final backup. OK, this was dumb now that I think about it, but I actually made quite a few good backups doing this, including a complete set of Fawlty Towers so I never questioned it. I just recently started working with the first season of Xena and got jerky panning scenes and figured that something was amiss...
After reading some more and realizing my stupidity, I fell to the following sequence which is working great.
Problem: Backup Region 1 (NTSC) Xena Season One DVD9s to NTSC DVD5s
Facts:
1. Original video quality is poor so using one step solutions out
2. Material is reported as interlaced by BitRate Viewer and visually
3. Source is Top Field First
Sequence:
1. DVD2AVI: Video Field = NONE
2. VFAPI Conv
3. CCE Robshot with only the following swithces
CCE Switches Used:
a. Add sequence end code
b. Linear quantizer scale
c. DVD compliant
4. DVDMaestro to remux
Results great...do I feel stupid, yes, but I'm doing the public mea cupla to hopefully help others who may be as clueless as I was.
