View Full Version : The Matrix Back-Up Success?

I have been trying to back up my (very watched) copy of The Matrix I own with alot of probs i've never had. I've backed up plenty w/ ease before.
I typically split w/ Ifoedit dvdsplit to 2 dvd's with ease. This one, no luck after endless tries...it plays back on ifoedit fine, but standalone no luck. I have all the VTS files, etc I think I need. I can't get past disc 1 to even see if disc 2 works...
I know by reading past threads this is a "tough" dvd to back-up, but has anyone had luck splitting to 2 dvd's or is this not possible w/ this particular dvd?
Thank you.

Ok w/ Ifoedit I get a perfect 1:1 copy, with these suggested programs, do they compress onto 1 disk or do you get to do a 1:1 copy over 2 disks like I do w/ Ifoedit. I searched the forum, not very clear on these programs, some are free, some are not...

both programs compress the movie to one dvd.

All the programs here (DVD2One, InstantCopy, DVD95Copy, DVDShrink, and DVDXCopy Xpress) are for fitting a DVD-5 or DVD-9 onto a single DVD-R.
Splitting can be done by IfoEdit, DVDXCopy, DVDToolBox, and possibly others.

Thanks everyone. I now discovered DVDshrink which is an amazing free tool, didn't know this existed.

I've got a successful split with IFOedit. I made the split between chapters 12 & 13, put all the extras on disc 1, and made a few tweaks to the menus & firstplays on each disc.

Thanks, I prefer to not compress a movie like this, I will try Ifoedit again, so you just split in the middle of those chapters huh? Did you have to keep or tweak the vts 01, etc files?

I made a few modifications to each disc. When I get home tonight I'll check my notes and see if I can reconstruct them.

I've developed a draft Cheat Sheet. Due to the tools & methods used, I posted it in the IFO/VOB Editors Forum, HERE (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=53403). If anybody tries it, let me know how it works.

I tried this guy version and it didn't work. Simple split dvd with Ifoedit, then copy all vts 01 & 03 files over to both disks, still no luck.

Could you perhaps provide more of the specifics of what you're trying, or in what way it doesn't work?

Absolutely, sorry. I am trying to split this into 2 DVD'r's based on using Ifoedit, keeping the orginal film (no rencoding ala DVDshrink, etc) like I've done succesfully with other movies I own.
After splitting, I need to transfer all the vts 01 & 03 files over since the movie is on 02. Works fine w/ ifoedit as a test and powerdvd player, but no luck on burn w/ standalone. I've tried splitting it different parts of the chapters, etc...It seems my ONLY option for this is using software like dvdshrink, etc to reencode into 1 disk, which looses some picture quality. I just want to split this into 2 dvd's keeping all extras, menus, everything kind of like doom's link here:
http://www.doom9.org/mpg/ifoedit-2dvdrs.htm
I basically am following doom's guide here perfectly which has worked for me 99% in the past, NOT this movie, why?

Random thoughts:
1. When splitting, are you checking "AutoCopy Menu-files to destination"?
2. After you copy VTS's 1 & 3 to both discs, are you re-opening an IFO in each disc in turn, with IFOedit, and doing a "Get VTS Sectors"?
3. I've had a lot of problems lately with modified backups playing fine on the PC but not on my stupid Panasonic standalone. I've rarely been able to figure out why. I suspect that sometimes it's the media, sometimes some minor glitch in the burn, and I know that sometimes it's an oddity in the re-authored fileset that I haven't identified and can't find. I've been using -RW's as a test when I'm at all suspicious. Frequently, converting to an .img file with ImgTool, and burning that, fixes the problem.

mikewillnot thank you very much for the "random" statement of
Frequently, converting to an .img file with ImgTool, and burning that, fixes the problem. !!
I used to do that time to time and then it seems it didn't matter, but it did on this, success, thanks alot!
