I have these vob files of a DVD which has been split to 2 DVD's. They have doen this to keep the quality of the movie. I am guessing that IfoEdit has been used to split it into two DVD's ..now what i was wondering was can i use vobedit ..to join back the split files into one DVD again ...I wanna join them and then simply re-encode....I guess i could use the guide at the ifoedit site. However i do have question about that guide.....It has two sections one is joining clips...the other is joining double sided DVD's ..now which category does my situation fall under. If a dvd has been split with ifoedit, does this mean that its you would use "joining clips" guide...or should it be trearted as a double sided DVD which means you would use the "joining double sided dvds" guide to bring it back together into one!!!

well having used the guide eveything went fine when it came to joining the vobs.....however i am having problems with the IFO files and the menu vob.....I tried the first method (according to the guide) which was to create new ifo files.....after that when i used "get vts sectors" i got an error about the ifo files not having menu tables (menu data) and that the menu vob would cause a problem.
So i thought let me try the second way which is to keep the ifo's (from the orginal split dvd) as it is and just use 'get vts", well the "get vts" worked. However, the menu works....but when i play the movie it still plays the first part.....and does not continue further!!! It does not realize that the other vobs joined are still a part of the construction ....I took the video_ts/ifo/bup files from Disc 1 from the split DVD.....so i am guessing that that would be the correct files to take ....so i am simply stuck .....
How are you supposed to go about the menu ifos and vobs ...when joining back split DVD's so that the menu works as it should like it was from the original (single) dvd. What should you pay attention to???? Anyone have any ideas???? How can i solve this menu data issue??? Thnx in advnace for the help and suggestions!!!

no one has any ideas??? I also thought about the factor of having to re-encode the movie I still have to get the chapters from one of the ifo files...would it be from CD1 or from CD2 ...The vts1 ifo of cd1 is 72kb and the vts1 ifo of CD2 is 78kb ..is that normal after someone splits a DVD into two...so which one would you use to get your chapters from???...I have no clue which one has the original chapters from the two ifo's...i did look at them and cd2 has more chapters in it that cd1 ifo........and that the last chapter has been deleted or something......anyone with any ideas??

Sorry to tell you the bad news but when you create new IFOs, it creates a DVD structure that has no menus. Basically, you are making a movie-only DVD. When you "get VTS Sectors" with a menu VOB present, you will get errors since the IFO is not configured for menus.
The "Joining Double sided" guide is a low level attempt to combining your VOBs together but at the cost of losing your menus.

thnc for tha reply 2cool......I guess if i wanna join them i gotta sacrifice the menus:) ....would there be a possibility to deconstruct the whole menu strcuture and rebuild it in maestro combined with the movie!! I guess that would cost alot of work!!!

When you have the original .IFO files from the split dvd9 you can have all the menu's and fancy stuff...
I did some succesfull runs with TripleX, Donnie Darko...and more.
Also had some setbacks with Pearl Harbor and We were Soldiers, when I join the 2 dvd5's together the original dvd9 .IFO's won't work for some strange reason...

I'm using the original .IFO's from the dvd9!!
When I'm splitting a dvd9 into 2 dvd5's I always make a backup of the .IFO files from the original dvd9, there only 50kb or something.
But still with these original dvd9 .IFO's I sometimes have problems (eg. Illegal Navigation Pack) when I join the dvd5's back together into 1 dvd9. Movie only is never a problem...
I think the only way you can get the menu's working again is dvdmaestro or other dvd authoring tools...and me too, so I'll give these proggies a go
