Hi there,
I want to use some low quality mpeg's on a DVD, but I'm curious about how I should compres it.
Should I do CBR 9000 to make sure the quality doesn't get worse, or try and find out how much kbps the files are and stick to that.
I understand the quality won't get any better, but I'd like to make it doesn't get any worse.
Thanks in advance,
Andra

well if they are so low quality why don't you do (S)VCD? i think it's a waste of time to produce DVDs out of low qual material... just IMHO of course. CBR 9000 is far too much in my eyes!
but of course this is your decision!

I can't use VCD because my standalone won't play them. I just would like to know wether a lower bitrate would make a low quality mpeg even worse, or that it wouldn't matter to a certain extent because it's already highly compressed.

oh... ok...
well afaik if you recompress using an equally low, or a little better, bitrate would surely cost you some quality... anyway, i guess even with a pretty high bitrate you'll lose a few details!

What format are your mpegs in the first place? If they are VCD compliant, you can use the video without reencoding to author a standard-compliant DVD (it is part of the DVD standard). You will have to change the audio to 48kHz, though.
