Menu won't play

After ripping, stripping, 'Get VTS', etc., PowerDVD begins with the studio logo, then straight to movie.. I can't get menu to play (even after movie begins). ??

I did a search and i think i need to set 'First Play' to the 'video manager menu'(??).. I tried editing the Video_TS.IFO, but i'm sure i'm not doing it correctly. Can someone please advise or point to a guide that would walk me step by step..??

Remember, i can't even get the menu to come up (but the Video_01.0.VOB and Video_TS.VOB folder are present).

Exactly what shows when you play your unedited DVD from insert to Menu display? Look inside IFOedit DVDplay Panel's Status Window during play for video info and give a brief description.

OK.. IFOedit.95 DVD Play Panel Status: Title 1, Chapter 1, Audio: English, "No Text Info" .. that's about it. None of the 'Menu' buttons work on the panel. So basically, i somehow accidentally 'instructed' the files to not play the main menu..??Maybe I did something wrong when/after stripping.. ??

I'm trying to backup Catch Me if You Can. I ripped to hdd, stripped title set 1 (main movie) of everything except English audio-6chDD, English subs and all VOB ID's (into separate folder). When done, moved all other files (except original movie vob's) into the stripped folder and "Get VTS Sectors" on the VIDEO_TS.IFO file.. is that wrong??

Actually, I tried "Get VTS Sectors" again (i saved all original .IFO files separately) and got an error message: "Found menu .VOB...no menu tables found.. " ... ??

Did you use the Menu Extras button? Also do you have your movie menu VOB, *_0.VOB, included in your destination folder?

Yes, I do have the menu vob in the folder (vts_01_0.vob).

No, I did not use the Menu Extras button..?? Could you point to a detailed guide, please? Or provide the steps? Thanks.

strip streams
strip vob's
correct vob-unit (navig'l packs)...
correct orig'l IFO's
create new IFO's

NOT checked:
re-mux
split to 2 dvd'r's
rebuild PTS

then i strip into a separate folder, then move all the orig'l menus and extras into the folder with the new stripped files.. is there a better/easier/or correct way of doing??

You forgot the most important step...Use IFOupdate.

Then all will work.

Hmm?? Well, what did you experts do before IFOupdate came out? Didn't you only have IFOedit and 'Get VTS..'..??

You mentioned in your previous post that kept all your VOB ID's but ...

why do you have strip vob's checked? Just have that unchecked so your vob ids won't be stripped/deleted.

Update: I think I see where your problem lies. You created new IFOs. By doing this your new IFOs would not have menu data in them. Creating new IFO files are mainly for movie only. It doesn't matter if you had set your Autocopy Menu Files to Destination checked. That's why a menu vob file was detected earlier but it was not configured in it's associated IFO.

If you want to strip just your streams, just have these checked.

In Options:
Strip Stream’s
Correct VOB-Unit pointers in VOB-Files
Correct original VOB Files

In File/Directory paths: AutoCopy Menu-files to destination.

In VOB EXPERT Options: Everything checked except Remove llVU/Angle Point.

OK, i think i get it.. Because i'm keeping movie, menu and extras, i don't have to strip vob's b/c i'm essentially keeping ALL of them, yes? That means i won't need to 'create' new IFO's, only to 'correct' them and 'correct navig'l packs'..

Thanks for your patience.. I guess i could just push the buttons, click, etc.. as you state, but i like to try to understand the 'logic' behind what i'm doing (makes it easier to troubleshoot). and right now, i don't think i understand IFOedit too well).

Also, when and why do you strip vob-id's?? example?

Well, anyway, i took the long way around --> stripped movie into separate folder, created new IFO's, moved those vob's back into the original folder w/menu and extras, used MakeItEasy to update IFO's.. works perfectly.

Last question, what's the difference between using MakeItEasy vs. IFOupdate vs. using 'Get VTS Sectors' in IFOedit.95???
