5.1 Audio won't play as I do

Hey Codec people,

I do have a "tiny" problem which is driving me nuts.
I do have a Creative Extigy Soundcard and I'm trying to play an ac3 audio signal (5.1) though it.

But some codec seems to be wrong,
there's this ac3 control panel, which shows an equilizer and shows the audio level on each channel. So there is nothing at all at the moment, I think some other decoder may do this job at the moment.

Since I don't know how to fix this, I hope you could gimme a hint on how to go on.

I try to play a dvd via PowerDVD (This tells that dd5.1 is played) or play an ac3 (5.1) audio file with bsplayer.
I hear sound but no 5.1!

try installing AC3filter... if that doesn't help set the output option in ac3filter (or PowerDVD) to SPDIF

I installed the AC3 Filter.
That's what I meant with the ac3 control panel.
But the ac3 stream seems not to go past this ac3 filter, since I don't see any peaks there at all.

Make sure you havn't ticked ac3 passthrough in creative's audio mixer, if you want the extigy to decode the signal and send it out the analog 5.1 output. If it's ticked it will passthrough the signal to an external decoder on the coaxial and the optical out.

Currently i don't have any problem's with it at all, i use the windvd audio decoder to accomplish this set to spdif output, so it should work.

If i remember correctly i did have some problems with getting powerdvd to work at some point. I haven't tested powerdvd in quite a while though, so I don't remember exactly.

You could try letting graphedit render the ac3 file and look at what filters it connects up, could be a problem with the merits of the filters. Though powerdvd should work in that case.

I have some problems with playing my audio.I don't hv extigy sound card.
But all the sounds even mono/sterop gets messed up when i try to play it.
There is some kinda noise speacially in dvds which has the 5.1 channal sound.

Hope i would get some help.

Well i assume that u are asking me the specs of my computer.And it is
Intel Hyper Thearading 3.04 ghz
1 gb ddr ram
Built in Sound card
128 Mb Gforce

what is your soundcard (model name)?
what kind of speakers do you use?
what did you try to solve your problem?
what drivers do you have installed?
etc
