DVD structure on CDR

Just a quick question...is it possible to write DVD structure onto a CDR? and what program would I use? Thanks in advance

this is called miniDVD or CDVD(TM) or DVDonCD(TM)

U can use an Sampo or one of its clones to play such disc, although there r reports that some high priced standalones do play them.

Thanks guys...I found that miniDVD doesn't work on neither of my two DVD players but would work on a cheapo at my in-law. Just can't see why it shouldn't though...doesn't matter I'll probably end up purchasing a DVD writer soon.

nab a Norcent DP-300 from Walmart, real cheap and it'll play just about anything you throw at it. I tried a miniDVD the other day for the first time and was impressed that it not only played, but specifically identified the disk AS a 'miniDVD' :'>

I've pasted a description from the GLOSSARY section of http://www.afterdawn.com which explains what miniDVD is "Basically miniDVD is a regular CD that has the same structure as regular DVD-Video has. Most of the standalone DVD players can be fooled to think that the disc inserted is a regular DVD-Video disc and to play it." Is this statement correct? Can we actually fool the standalone DVD player to play the miniDVD? No one seems to have an answers to these questions. I am just curious as to why it was made.

Can we fool it like we can fool a standalone DVD player that cannot play SVCD to do so using the VCD Header Trick?

I know for sure that all standalones check the type of media inserted and if dvd media is not found then they drop the dvdplay routines and r loading the vcd, audio ones. Therefore playback of a dvd structure in any media other than dvd is prohibited.

However certain standalones, usually Far Eastern ones r bypassing this limitation by not following the rule. Sampo clones can play miniDVD.

If u r an expirienced programmer u could hack into your firmware and enable this feature. Actually is a simple rewriting of the check_media routines.

It is written in a cd, isn't it? No reason why u can't playback on a cd-rom. PowerDVD handles it quite well.

Sorry, but this is complete and utter bollox! I have played them back on three entirely different machines,

i). www.scan.co.uk/products/sc440lsi.htm
ii). an Alba (really cheapo one from Aldi's - ie; £60)
iii). an ancient Samsung 907 from way back in the '90s, whose review (www.homecinemachoice.com/testbench/DVDPlayers/Samsung/SamsungDVD-907.shtml) states it doesn't even read CD-R's!


*** All three of these machines play my miniDVD's with no problem ***
