I've taken a look at ffvfw and it looks like a very interesting codec. I was curious how it's MPEG4 compressor compares with that of XviD's. Has anyone done a comparison between the two? Also is the any webpage out there that explains all of the options? There are plenty to play around with but I don't really know what half of them do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

http://rguyom.ath.cx/ very comprehensive, but makes for a good read. Oh and they haven't compared xvid and ffmpeg yet but I think that is to come.
