hi :d
I tried searching for the info
1.- when I burn vcds sometimes when I play them in my dvd I get artifacts until what I think is the next key frame?, I dont know....but it doesnt happen on my computer dvd

2.- Quality of encoding in nero sucks...is there any way of changing that?

3.- Nero gave me the artifacts...I think......any way to solve this?

4.-em....I enconded from divx 5.02 to vcd with tmpgenc...but the divx look wya better than the vcd and svcds I made....why? :'(

thanks yall :D
sorry for the newby talk ;)

Hi dyson,

1.)When you say 'sometimes when I play them' do you mean that sometimes they look ok and other times you get artifacts? If that's the case then surely it must be your player?!?

2.)Are you encoding with nero or just writing your mpg to a CD? I use Nero for burning CD's, it doesn't do any encoding at all, so afaik, it shouldn't affect your video quality. The only thing I noticed Nero does do is check your mpg for VCD/SVCD compliancy.

3.) *shrug* I can't see how?

4.) Well depending on your divx resolution I would bet that the resolution and bitrate of your VCD would be a lot less. By converting to VCD you are probably downgrading your video quality.

1.-yeap I thinks its the player....thou I just wanted to ask in case it happens regularly cause I dont want to have to see it always.. ;)

2.-nero also encodes in case you have a video which is not compliant, its faster encoder than tmpgenc but the quality difference is not dramatic but you can notice it.

3.-The only encode I made with nero was the one that sometimes gave me artifacts...thats why I asked ;)

4.-yeah I suppose you are right..but for example....divx uses some properties to "improve" playback quality...are those properties used when encoding to another format?...like...say if I converted the format to raw video...would that video look like divx with playback optimizations or without them? cause sometimes the quality of the video looks way better with optimization. :D

also...
5.- I made a vcd with chapters using VCDEasy...I noticed that when I tried making a spot for the chapter the bar and the time of the chapter would be slithly back from what I selected....is this cause of the keyframes or something?...sorry I'm used to using divx :P

6.- Is there anyway to "copy protect" VCD's and SVCD's or something? cause I completly edited over 1 and a half days of videos in like 2 months work...and I dont want to see copies on the streets(Chile is well known for that)....well at least for some time :P

thanks y'all

As for copy protection, there is no reliable way to protect VCD or SVCD - after all they are made to a standard so they can be read by standalones.
