For some reason, during the DVD2SVCD process, TMPGEnc has suddenly started crashing during the picture conversion stage. It's been working absolutely fine until now, and I can't think of anything I may have changed to cause the problem.

Anyway, the DVD2SVCD log gets this far:

- Encoding C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\Movie\TitlePicture.bmp.avs
Executing TMPGEnc. Commandline:
"C:\Program Files\Pegasys Inc\TMPGEnc Plus 2.5\TMPGEnc.exe" "E:\dvd2svcd\movies\TMPGEnc_Project_file.tpr" /Encode /Close

TMPGEnc is launched, then immediately crashes with the following application error:

"The instruction at 0x01e02020 referenced memory at 0x01e02020. The memory could not be read"

After this, DVD2SVCD carries to the next picture, same error, and so on. It's all downhill from there.

I've had a dig through old posts here, and there are many instances of TMPGEnc crashing, but nothing specific to this particular problem, that i can find.

Any and all help much appreciated.

The first thought that came to my head is perhaps it is just this film. Have you tried using TMPG to convert other films besides this problematic source? Have you tried disabling the pictures and then encoding?

OK, I just tried disabling the pictures, but now TMPGEnc fails when it comes to converting the AviSynth_Script_file.avs file. Exactly the same error, same address.

I'll try it with a DVD I've previously converted successfully, see what happens. But I thought these picture files had nothing to do with the individual DVD? Why should the DVD source make a difference here?

Hmm, it's crashing with a DVD I've previously converted OK. I must've broken something, somewhere, somehow.

I've tried deleting TMPGEnc's config files, but no effect. Perhaps a reinstall of TMPGEnc would work.

This must be either a hardware or a software issue. Try to reinstall every program you use for this conversion (DVD2SVCD, TMPGEnc). If it doesnīt work, reinstall your OS. If it doesīnt work too, itīs most likely a hardware issue.

Yup, a complete reinstall of TMPGEnc and DVD2SVCD with the latest versions did the trick.

Very odd.

Thanks, folks.

I didn't figure the dvd source would've been the problem, but trying another dvd verified that for us. My next suggestion would've been a reinstall, but Mr. WinXI beat me to it :)
