No idea how to convert avi --> mpeg

Hi Guys,

I captured a dv movie from my digital videocamera and divided it into 4 avi's..

Now I want to convert them in mgegs to create svcds!

Maybe someone can tell me the programs I need to and short description of the process!

That would be great!
