Somehow I must be missing something....

Tried both InstantCopy 7 (0039) and 7.01 (7.02 will follow shortly!) but the files are just too large!

Movies
- Minority Report
- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Method:
- Rip to HD with DVDShrink (no compression), Movie only (without(c) leader and credits, extra languages etc.) to have best quality
- HD to HD conversion using IC7

results in .pdi files well over 4.7Gb. After I tried un-installing and reverting back to 0039 the results became even worse!

Only thing I found here on the forum was the incorrect asapi installation.
- Is this what the IC7 check (HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Run) tries to fix?
- Are there other ways of fixing asapiw2k or removing it (the check was only performed after 7.01 was installed?)
This asapi thing seems to be a problem anyway, after installing 7.01 I got the message that the asapi installation was incorrect, fixed it, had to reboot, then CloneCD came up telling me that the installation was incorrect and tried to correct it......

- Is there maybe an issue that DVDShrink does NOT remove Macrovision?
- Tried X-Men 1.5 from a full rip, included menus etc. and that was fine? (0039 version)

Here is an alternative and more time-consuming technique (not requiring dvdshrink). Rip the movie title/pgc/angle with dvd decrypter or smartripper. Put a copy of VIDEO_TS.IFO into the rip directory. If you want to remove the final chapter (credits), do this here as well. Point ifoedit to the VTS_XX_0.IFO file which represents the ripped movie, and click on vobextras (checking re-create ifo's box). Make sure you save the output to a new sub-directory. Let ifoedit remove unwanted subtitles and audio tracks. When it is finished you will have a VIDEO_TS.IFO, VTS_01_0.IFO, VTS_01_1.VOB, etc., with self-consistent vobu pointers. You can click on get vts sectors, but I think this is superfluous for IC. IC can load and process the VIDEO_TS.IFO file treating the subdirectory and its contents as a complete dvd file set with just one title and no menu. This is the beauty of ifoedit (it recreates a master VIDEO_TS.IFO file, with no editing. With get vts sectors, the entire subdirectory, if properly named and under 4.5GB, would be ready for a burner). Assuming it is over the capacity of one dvd-r, let IC do an automatic shrink. Other than crashing, you should have no problem getting a set of files that is under 4.3 GB. Be creative with the sizing, and you can also get nearer to the max limit.

Good tip! Thanks! Saves me an extra copy of the image on my harddrive.

As for the encoding size, this is really getting to be a bitch. Tried shrinking to 3.81Gb and still ended up > 5Gb.

Last resort: I'll try it on my Win9x installation tonight (IC hasn't been installed before). To see if that helps.

By now I'm thinking of using CCE to do the re-coding

The test on Win98 did NOT work either!

There seems to be some issue with the DVDShrink step that I included to strip off as much as possible the unnecessary parts of the movie.

Couldn't get 'Minority Report' to be small enough to fit on a DVD at all, but when I used the original image it UNDER-sized as expected due to the letterboxed format.
