View Full Version : FU Source Code Release

The day has come to jump start the 'encoding GUI' community. Long has the need existed for a new encoding application for the next generation codecs to be released. DivX Networks thinks you'll buy into DrDivX. So, in the neverending fight against the evil hype empire, a great man has bestowed a gift upon the development community at-large, and hopefully, eventually, the end-user. A couple weeks ago, a bird flew into my window and dropped a large manilla envelope on my desk. Upon opening the envelope, I was greeted by 100 5 and 1/4" floppy disks, labeled FairUse SourceCode Part 1 of 100, etc. Enclosed with the disks was a small note, informing me of the blessing I had to append the GPL to this magnificent work, and spread the mirth. Unfortunately, the disks were formatted for the Apple IIe, so it took me some time to locate the appropriate hardware. After browsing through the archives and appending the GPL. It became readily apparent that added XviD output to this engine would be somewhat trivial. I was originally hoping to add that feature before the release of the sources, but time is not on my side. Therefore, without further adieu, or gilding of the lilly, the GPL FairUse SourceCode release.
Thanks once again to the wonderful author who chose me to be his humble messenger ;)

Tripod obviously didn't like my site lol, so I've borrowed some of the Save-OE SF space.

Just a note : We'd be gladly hosting this project on corecodec.org, and support it with some nice gifts like a homepage design and the like ;) ...

Wow! Very cool of you, int21h! Thanks...
This what I was waiting for... Now, just add Besweet support, AVI input (all colorspaces, please) and the ability to make coffee and it's perfect :) .
Thanks a million! Count me in as a beta tester when it's ready, just drop me a line if I miss it.
Cheers,
Mijo.

I've been tinkering with it, but I won't have a LARGE amount of time for a few weeks. Part of my agreement with the little bird was a timely release of the source, so I couldn't wait until my time was available to try and add things.

Well, it's quality not quantity ;) . It would be nice if this would not end like the last project here ("Compressed Domain Mpeg-2 transcoding GPL program")...
Anyway, like I said, for this one I would do beta testing.
Cheers,
Mijo.

Well, I think I may have enough base knowledge, and enough time now, that this project shouldn't end like the other ;) There just wasn't that much interest in the last project apparently.
@Ookie: Compressed Domain Mpeg-2 transcoding...yup that did die, sorry I didnt have more time for it. But you do kinda end up writing a whole mpeg-2 decoder from scratch (well...almost), and I just didnt have the time. Learnt quite a bit from where I did get to though. I just didnt have the motivation (& no one else had any whatsoever really :( )

I had the motivation but not the knowledge lol

@Nic
I feel ashamed when you ask me for forgiveness... I mean, you're Nic, understand ;) . Ok, that's maybe the same your mother told you... I mean I completely understand what happened.
Not to mention that we have DVD Shrink :) . Cool, isn't it?
Ok, enough of me.
Good night and thanks to all of you programmers.
Cheers,
Mijo.

i took a peak in the code ;) hmm there are many old DivX 3.11 things in it but that should be no propblem to replace them with the XviD parts but wich API to use 3 or 4 or first 3 and then later replace it with 4 and the whole Low Motion Fast Motion concept isn't needed anymore for XviD or am i wrong ?
A big thank you to int 21h for reminding me of my promises and helping to get this source release out the door.

And of course, a big thank you to you for making this all possible. It's nice to see you still around and maybe you'll find time for some contribution too (if not coding then at least some hints/support for those who will code ;) ).
Thanks.
Now, I'm really gonna shut up.
Cheers,
Mijo.

A sourceforge project for one developer could be overkill, its sort of like the Save-OE project that we never took anywhere.
Geez, its depressing to think of all these failures.

Well, yes, but maybe someone would assist you ;) . As I don't know how time consuming making a new Sourceforge project is I will not comment anymore, since you know better what to do or not.
Failures? You should've seen the amount of Projects that never even got started on e.g. Ultimate Board :D .
If you need a wanted feature list or any beta testing help, please, contact me. Now, I *really* will shut my japper (?)...
Cheers,
Mijo.

The fact that you don't have to screw around with ripping and DVD2AVI makes me hungry for this one. Of course the ability to use Avisynth and Vdub plugins would be nice (Maybe under an advanced button). I dunno where it got to on things like IVTC etc on it's last builds as I had switched by then.
Yeah dropping the hi/lo motion stuff is a simple matter. But why not leave it in and just have the option of using it or not? Size I guess. Support for OGG, AC3 in OGM and possibly later on MKV would be cool. Also the ability to do subs (Though that could be tricky).
Looking for an all in one ripper and encoder here obviously.

how's it going? DivX5 would be nice to obsolete Dr. DivX. XVID of course also. DSPGuru would probably help out with the BeSweet.dll integration so it can remain an All-In-One program, probably can encode the audio without even extracting it using the VOBinput capability. The the only thing left would be the muxing, and from what I can tell, that's not too difficult of a job, right?
