View Full Version : Best DeNoise filter ?

Hi.

I am using the latest GKnot (0.28) and I have noticed that in case I choose Little Noise from the Save and Encode menu, the TemporalSmoother (2,1) filter which came with the previous versions of GKnot is now replaced by mergechroma(blur(1.3)). I have found that TemporalSmother worked pretty well. Anyways, I got 2 questions :

1) Which is the best DeNoise filter out there, qualitywise ? I am specifically targeting for those DVDs that have some grain on their picture.

2) Is the TemporalSmoother command still compatible with the Avisynth that comes with the latest GKnot 0.28 ?

Thanks in advance for any help.

P.S. : I have read this (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=51181) thread with the comparison of DeNoisers but I have no clue what it means. What do all these numbers show ?

You'll find this change listed, and the reasons for it, in items #1 and #2 in this useful link (http://forum.doom9.org/search.php?s=&action=showresults&searchid=115427&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending).
12) ..Do not ask "what's best" because this question cannot be answered objectively. (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm)

That list is useful to see what filters there are, their speed and how much they compress with the said settings. It says nothing about the picture quality so it's best combined with other threads or personal experience.

no, it's not... you can try using TemporalSoftener instead...
