delayed write failed - firwire drive - help

I just purchased an external firewire drive. It works fine on one of my systems but not on the other.

I get a "delayed write failed" when copying large files. It just times out, gives me this error, and disconnects the drive.

I tried turning off write cache, but that still had no effect.

Has anyone experienced this and if so what did you do to fix it?

I have the same prob, and it seems to be related to VIA MB... I've read some tricks on some forums, but none seems very reliable. I you have find out, please let me know...
