Hey all geeks and freaks out there!
This is the first time I post something at this forum, so I dont really know if its the right place...

MY question goes like this:
I have several movies in xvid format, which i would very much like to see. How can i watch these? Which codec should I DL? Where should i Install it? Isnt there some kind of xvid player?

You can play Xvid in nearly every player, the only exception I can think of is the weird divx player they force you to download with their codec (or is it able to play Xvid?)...
Windows media player works in any case, but I would rather recommend zoomplayer or media player classic...
Search with google and you should find them...
For the codec:
There are several builds, I usually use the one from koepi, you can get it at www.roeder.goe.net/~koepi ...
Or you can download ffdshow (google), it can also decode Xvid, uses a little less processor-power, and brings some nice features with it...

Oh, and welcome to the doom9 forum! :)

Hi-

The video is fine, but i dont have any sound.

Why didn't you say so the first time? Then you don't need a codec, but most likely an audio filter. If it's AC3, then you need the AC3 Filter (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Filters/ac3filter_0_68b.exe). If that doesn't do it, then the general Audio Filters (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Filters/audiofilters.zip) should fix you up.

Hi-

Now it's my turn to apologize. I glossed right over the "Thank you very much", implying that ultimatebilly's suggestion worked. Anyway, I hope you get it going.

You mean the path you should install Xvid too? Doesn't matter, the filters are put to the system-folders anyway, and all other files can be reached via the start menu (I just use the default path)...
If you encounter a file with the ogm extension, then it will probably use ogg vorbis as sound-format, in this case download ogg.ds from http://tobias.everwicked.com.
Now you should have every filter necessary :D
