View Full Version : Why no permanent subtitles from srt file ?

juange
7th May 2003, 13:43
With last version of dvd2svcd I convert divx to svcd with external / permanent subtitles without any problem, But now I tried use *.srt subtitles and dvd2svcd didn’t make any bmps, and the svcds don’t have subtitles.
Are there any problem with srt extension ? Is necessary convert
first to sub or ssa ?

Thanks.

Well I made a small test with the same subtitle file converted to sub (microdvd) extension, and It worked.
Maybe there is a small problem with srt extension.:)

hi there i have just had the same problem, do you just rename the file or does it need to be converted some how?

cheers

You need convert files. SRT uses time mode and SUB uses frame mode.
I use “Subtitle Workshop” for this.
Tip : Before load sub, open the movie with “movie -> open” menu, for avoid desynch problems when convert sub -> srt.
Save us -> chose format.

I prefer microdvd ( sub) format. It’s the most popular in the web. SRT is nice, too, because you can open with a notepad and check times easy way.
Always for my svcd I use sub + avi + dvd2svcd, with great result.

Hi-

It's pretty easy to get SRT (and SSA) format subs into the .avs. Pause the process before the video encoding starts (in the Frameserver Tab, "Edit as part of video encoding"), and then when the .avs pops up, load the VSFilter (comes with VobSub), and add the TextSub line to your script. Since TextSub for AviSynth isn't part of the default VobSub install, you may have to do a Custom Install of VobSub. It should look something like this:

LoadPlugin("C:\Path\To\VSFilter.dll")
.
.
.
TextSub("D:\Path\To\Movie\Movie.srt")

Then save the edited .avs, open it in VDubMod or Nandub to make sure that the subs are there, and that they have the right color, size and positioning. Don't worry about the bad Aspect Ratio. Then start the DVD2SVCD video encoding.

If you have the .idx and .sub files, then it's even easier (no custom VobSub Install needed). Load the VSFilter as above, and then lower down (I prefer right below the Resize), add this:

VobSub("C:\Path\To\Movie\Movie")

thanks for the reply - few things to d/l and configure that i havent used before there
dont seem to have vsfilter...
is it really neccesary though - shouldnt dvd2svcd be able to do this itself without all the extras ???

made a few modifications to my avisynth script below, now it seems to be working in preview so giving a conversion a shot, thanks :)

Good, I'm glad you got it working. I was just offering an alternative way to do it, since you didn't seem to be having much luck at the time.

If you or anyone else ever need the VSFilter.dll, which evidently these days has TextSub built into it, together with quite a bit of information on how to use it, then you can get it here:
