I've got a problem when decoding xvid files since I've made a fresh and complete reinstall of my PC.
I now only have Win XP PRO SP1 Fr + nforce2 2.03 drivers + BS Player 086.494 installed.
Whatever the version of Nic's or Koepi's Xvid codec I install, xvid movies are played too slowly (near 20 FPS instead or 25 FPS) and sound off course is not synchronised. What is strange is that problem occured with BSplayer, ZoomPlayer, Mplayer, WMP9 but not with WMP8 ???
Finally, I found a pack (eclipse) and choose to install xvid only. And the files played correctly ???
Comparing the things, I found that the pack was installing only the xvid.dll file !!!
Now I have re-tested all that and can confirm: on a fresh XP Pro SP1 install, whatever Xvid codec I install, movies are played slowly, and if I remove the windows\system32\xvid.ax file, movies are played correctly !!!
Can sby explain me the role of xvid.ax file. Is it possible to force the use of the dll instead (without using ffdshow).
Is there any prerequisite on a fresh XP install to be able to use the direct show feature (xvid.ax), or may it be a driver or hardware related problem ?
