Hi everyone, first post here - I'll try and make this clear... :]

I've got a bunch of movies recently, all of them .AVI. Most I can split with "VirtualDubMod.exe" quite easily & the sound remains in-synch. A few of them I open up in VirtualDubMod and right away a message comes up, saying the following:

VirtualDub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding (audio stream 1) in the source AVI file. Current settings will rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values during processing for better compatibility. This may introduce up to 14446 ms of skew from the video stream. If this is unacceptable, decompress the *entire* audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file and recompress w/ a constant bitrate encoder. (bitrate: 133.5 +or- 20.4 kbps).

I've tried:
~ Ignoring this, as far as I can tell the audio gets screwed if you don't tell it to rewrite the header? Or can I just ignore the message, click no, cut movie in half and burn to VCD?...

~ I've also tried clicking "YES" to the original question, having DUB rewrite the header, and then click on "AVI > Audio > Direct Stream Copy", then "AVI > Save as .WAV". It goes through the movie and saves the .wav of the movie's entire audio, however... using an MP3 Encoder like "LAME" to turn .wav into .mp3 in hopes of putting it back into the movie correctly, fail. LAME has critical errors trying to use this particular .wav that dub creates. Every other encoder on the planet crashes too... conclusion: the .wav saved by VirtualDub is shit. :]

~ I've also tried to click "NO" to original question, follow same steps above... the .wav is still screwey, but I managed to get a bit farther - a random WAV to MP3 program encoded 1/2 an mp3 and then crashes at the same spot each time... so frustrating...

Has anyone seen this message before? Anyone have a cure for this? I've tried burning a VCD anyways but the audio is REALLY REALLY delayed from the video, kind of useless... Any suggestions guys? Thanks!

First, welcome here.
Second, as seen in the rules (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm) we encourage searching before posting, a simple search of 'improper VBR audio encoding' will give you more than 20 thread to read.

Edit: And next time, use a more descriptive title!

Ahhh! A search tool... I always thought they were junk, but that's just from previous experience w/ other boards... thanks!
