View Full Version : Didn't create the correct number of cds...bitrate help needed.
Hi:
I checked the messages for incorrect number of cds created, bitrate, etc,..and I receive vague or conflicting information to my problem.
Here is what I did?. I used dvd2svcd to decrypt(vstrip) and encode(TMPGenc) the DVD, Species. I wanted to fit the result onto 2 80 minute cds, so under bitrate, I set Between 100 and 125 minutes, use 2 cd size 800, 1982-1544. The messages I searched said to leave the bottom line alone, which I didn't alter: max 2530,min300 max avg2230...left min avg unchecked.
TMPGenc, during encoding(vbr2pass) said it was encoding at a little over 1800. However, a problem occurred while making the muxed files. The first file,bbMPEG_Muxed_File00.mpg, was the correct size(about 800mb), and a first bin/cue file was able to be created. However, the second muxed file ,bbMPEG_Muxed_File01.mpg, was much too large....about 1.6 gb. A second bin/cue couldn't be created. I manually demuxed using TMPGenc, then manually split the file using bbmpeg.
My question is, why didn't it create 2 files of the correct size instead of 1 correct file and then a second incorrect large file? WHen I played back the first bin/cue, my windvd said the bitrate was 2530, not 1816 as tmpgenc said it was encoded at. I believe I received incorrect information from the message search. I was led to believe that under bitrate, tweaking, altering the settings between 100 and 125 minutes, etc would give the corrct results. But now I am thinking that is just a bitrate calculator , and the settings which matter are the settings on the bottom line...and that I should have adjusted max avg to a range within what the line Between 100 and 125 minutes, use 2 cd size 800, 1982-1544 gave.
The movie is 109 minutes long...and if I set the settings between 100 and 110 minutes, use 2 cd size 800....I get 1982-1783. Now I think I should have set max average at 1800 in order to get 2 correct sized muxed files, but the messages said to leave those setting alone. AM I correct??
THanks

No, you're not correct. The values in the bitrate is used to calculate the average bitrate so you did right in not touching the values in the bottom line. Actually, this seems very weird, as I can't see where there could be an error in this, except that maybe the species movie actually is longer than 125 minutes and therefore swicthed to the next line in the bitrate tabs wihich needs 3 cd's. However, I doubt that too because when it's muxed it doesn't split the mpeg files into 3 but rather one normal size and one 2*size. Very weird indeed.
Would you mind mailing me your dvd2svcd.ini file? (don't change anything in dvd2svcd before you mail it to me otherwise I'll be testing using a wrong set of settings)
Hi:
Thx for responding...I sent the dvd2svcd.ini file to kaizen@doom9.org...couldn't find your email address.

huh, you dissapoint me a tad. If you look in:
dvd2svcd, in the about tab.
in the Q&A here
In the dvd2svcd readme file
All 3 places you can find my email. Please Mocha, put a bit more effort into it, otherwise it's not motivating to help, thanks.
Hej:
Sorry about that. Got lazy at the wrong time. Found the address and emailed the file... But at least I looked up how to say hello and thanks in Danish.
Tak
