How much quicker is CCE2.66.01.07 compared to CCE2.50

Hi all,

I've been using CCE 2.50 for some months now and have been very happy with the encodes - I can't recall it crashing at any point. I've recently upgraded to CCE 2.66.01.07 because I read that the later version was quicker. I've come to regret the upgrade (I am thinking of going back 2.50) since it has been somewhat fruitless. I've tried to encode like 15 times and have been successful only once. CCE 2.66.01.07 seems to crash / freezes all the time. I've just obtained from the forum a list of some of the reasons why it crashes / freezes. I was wondering whether many people are having the some problem. I am also wondering whether people have found 2.66.01.07 to be quicker than 2.50 and is it significant. I think I'll go back to 2.50 and wait for a more stable version. Who said CCE 2.66.01.07 was quicker? Do yourself a favor and keep them both installed (They co-habitate nicely) and don't pay too much attention to that type of thing unless you put a stopwatch on it yourself using your particular filter set that you like to use.

First rule is don't fix it if is not broken.

I swear I read somewhere that CCE 2.66.01.07 was quicker. If like you say there's no performance gain, than I am just wondering why a lot of people have bothered with the later version. It is more troublesome...my guess is that people are always wanting the latest...

The 2.6x versions are a little quicker than 2.50 on a P4. Also I had never any CCE version (2.50, 2.66, 2.67) crashing on me.

I addition to testing yv12 capabilities of the latest beta I also did a small speed test today... cce 2.50 with avisynth 2.51 came out on top, encoding my 20k DVD clip in 6:03, whereas cce 2.50 and avisynth 2.07 took 6:21, and cce 2.67b9/10 and avisynth 2.51 both took roughly 8:05.
The DVD used is Matrix, R1 and the CPU an Athlon XP 2800+ on an NForce 2 platform with 2x256 MB DDR-333 CL2.5 RAM. So the bottom line for me is that I will keep AviSynth 2.51 (DIF4U already supports it) but also stick with CCE 2.50 for the time being.

Doom9, did you use RB's progressive template in 2.67.10 and turn off all of the extra stuff in the newer CCE? Only way for apples to apples although telling you that is like telling my grandma how to suck eggs. Now where the hell did that expression ever come from anyway? :)

actually.. I used CCE default settings for both.. so the absolute values are absolutely irrelevant.. only the relatives count.

Well, those relatives may be from Tennessee and have two heads and a tail. That is a roundabout way of saying several more filters (I think) are engaged in the latest version of CCE than in 2.50. Anyway, I have to leave on a roadtrip so I probably will not see your reply 'til Sunday.

are you sure that the default settings don't mean the low pass and effect restricted filter at natural picture setting are not roughly equivalent to the default noise filter in cce 2.50? (I don't have any active CCE templates so the noise filter was activated when I used cce..)
because other than that I can't see an apparent difference in default settings.
