View Full Version : Possible Bug with DVDDecrypter 3.1.6.0

It froze today at 100% completion with the caption of 'Synchronizing Cache' while I was burning an image on my Sony DRU-500a, not entirely sure I want to try to duplicate the behavior, anyone else noticing anything strange when burning ISOs?

Already recorded some ISOs with v3.1.6.0 under Windows 2000 with DVR-105 (v1.30) and had no problems with it.

Me neither...
Maybe just bad luck - bad dvd-r?

I have confirmed there is some sort of an issue with 3.1.6.0 regarding burning and my Sony DRU-500a. I tried to burn again tonight, but it freezes at 100% with the same message of Synchronising Cache. The image burns with no errors in 3.1.4.0.

Hi, I too have had lots of problems with 3.1.6 on every disc I decrypt since I downloaded it. I get an error code that I never had with 3.1.4 on every disc. I click Retry, and sometimes it just continues right along, and somtimes I have to click Cancel to skip the file it is trying to work on. After all files are done, I go back to the affected files and they decrypt fine again.

It does that with 3.1.6.0 if you get another error when reading.
Strictly speaking, that should never happen, so the rezero unit command should never ever get issued to the drive and hence you'll never get the rezero unit command error.

@Int 21h, all you can do is enable i/o debug mode, burn a disc, and then send me the details of what it says in the log when it crashes.

I have a 500ax and have had no problems so far with 3.1.6.0
What sort of discs are you burning to? dvd+r or -r ?

I was burning to Ritek G3s. Let me try burning to a +rw with the debug mode enabled and see if it also happens, can't really afford to burn any more -R coasters ;)

My drive is also an AX, with 2.0c firmware.

I finally got around to actually logging this occurence. It happened with a Ritek G3. Before tonight I had just been using an old version of DVDDecrypter that doesn't give me this error. I took out long repeating occurences and replaced them with '...' to make this log a little shorter, after the SENSE 30 00 response comes back, the drive light is off, the only way to stop DVDDecrypter is to end its task, and the only way to get any drive functionality back is to reboot.

Thanks in advance for your attention to this.

The last few region 1 films that I've backed up won't play. The only difference in my method is DVDDecrypter 3.1.6.0. I now get the 'not suitable for this region' type screen even though I am using either a Scan or Datawrite DVD player. Is it DVDDecrypter not making the IFO files region free as it never happened with 3.1.5.0.

Interesting... that sense code 30 00 means 'Incompatible Medium Installed'

Why on earth your drive is saying that is beyond me!

Is that the most recent firmware for your drive? If not, you might like to try updating it.

Your problem sounds like RCE protection.
Are you making sure to correctly configure the 'RCE Protection Region' option before ripping?

The DVD in question is X-Men region 1. I successfully backed it up with an older version, but as kids are the disk has been scratched and I made a new backup with 3.1.6.0. Same 'squashing' software so that's not problem. Gone back to 3.1.5.0 and region problems gone!

yeah its probably RCE then.
If you live in the uk, I think I made RCE default to 2 instead of 1 as it had done in previous versions.

Okay. I'll try that next time.
Cheers

Tried latest firmware (2.0f) but it doesn't help :(

what happens if you eject the disc and reinsert it? Does it still say incompatible medium?

Do you have another brand of media you could try?

I dont see why your 500a should behave any differently to mine. :-/

The drive stays locked even after I end DVDDecrypter, and after I restart it won't detect any of my drives again until I reboot. The DVD Drive also wont eject until reboot.

I hadn't thought to check even one of the 5 or so disks that gave me this error... but after checking them it appears as though they are valid disks. They play in my DVD player and they come up complete in DVD Decrypter... strange indeed.

Yeah, the entire process seems to have gone according to plan. The only thing thats throwing DVD Decrypter off is that when its finished with the 04 08 sense error when syncing the cache, it goes to that 30 00.
DVD Decrypter only assumes its complete when the command no longer errors out. This should in theory be once its done with the 04 08 errors.

The drives 'locked' status can be disabled in the settings, but with burning, it might lock itself.

I cant think for the life of me what the actual cause of the problem is. Have you been able to test different brands / types of disc as I suggested? Does it still mess up when burning to dvd-rw, dvd+r and dvd+rw?

It only does it with the Ritek G3s I have laying around, I tried an old CMC (Imation) disc I had, and didn't have a problem... and it never happens with +rw. I have turned off UDMA on the drive (PIO now), and it hasn't happened since (have burnt two images so far), so we'll see...

Is it possible for you to modify DVDDecrypter to just continue after that error and stop gracefully? I don't necessarily see a problem with it as long as I dont have to reboot my computer to use my drives again ;)

Well yeah, im considering changing some of the logic so that the problem you're having wont cause dvd decrypter to seemingly hang whilst syncing the cache. Im not sure exactly how 'stable' the drive will be as it really shouldnt need this workaround and it makes me think something is wrong elsewhere.
You certainly shouldnt have to reboot to use your drives.
If you just load up dvd dec again having terminated it, just click on the eject button and dvd dec will unlock the tray and eject your disc.

If I load up DVDDec again (after having terminated its process), it hangs on the drive-scan step. Its like it crashes the entire SPTI subsystem or something goofy.

Hmmm I guess you'll have to wait for the revised version then. Obviously it shouldnt crash (I bet if you load dvd dec up again when its syncing the cache, it will work) but perhaps windows doesnt like killing handles to drives.

Ok, thanks for the prompt attention :) Keep up the good work.
