View Full Version : xvid dshow
I want to ask why default color space in xvid dshow is yv12? For many video cards (like my GeForce 2 Pro) it's little buggy. Some objects have thin green halo. It can give xvid bad impression if someone doesn't know how to fix it(change to yuy2).
Second thing is about playing avis with gaps. After first one video doesn't play. With divx it goes over that glitches. It's little uncomfortable with not fully downloaded movies (with P2P).

uhhh ok. I have no problems...everything you describe has NOTHING to do with xvid but buggy drivers and/or crappy settings or outdated encoding software and methodology.

All MPEG codecs use YV12. All incomplete avi files cannot be played, regardless of the codec.
Is there a big speed difference with playing mpeg4 with color conversion to yuy2 or without it? Anyway in older geforces it is converted by buggy drivers. I think it's better to set it for default in safe setinng then risk strange effects with noobs which have problems with just finding xvid codec.:p
In P2P program eMule is option to download first and last 9MB chunk firs. So even if you downloaded only a few chunks you can view it. With divx it work nice it skips bad frames and play good ones. Xvid just plays frames to the firs gap. :(

I have "digital dust" with my detonator GF2Pro64 drivers. Meaning I get red/blue specks on the image at random spots, like dust on a film reel. But I don't care and I don't cry, doo-dah, doo-dah, I just thank god that cows don't fly, all the doo-dah day. I output RGB32.
