View Full Version : No Audio on Stand Alone DVD

I am a newbie and what little hair I have left I have pulled out.
I authored a DVD using ulead media studio and burned with ulead DVD workshop. It does not play audio in any of my stand alone DVD players but will play on computer. In the past I have had no problem but this editing process was more complex (at least for me).
In media studio inserted a clip (mp3 audio and avi video) in the middle of another larger Avi (audio and video) clip. Then converted to mpeg file. Which plays fine. Then I created the DVD. The only place I have audio on the stand alone is where the small clip is.
Well, going purely by what little info you provided, my gut instinct is that the .mp3 source file you used was probably 44.1khz, whereas all DVD audio must be 48khz. Obviously you converted this audio to MPEG1-layer2, but it must nevertheles be unpsampled to 48khz (and do also remember that only PAL truly supports MPEG audio, so if you're authoring for NTSC, then you need to use DTS, AC3, or .wav). Please check your sampling rate and TV standard (NTSC or PAL), and get back to me.

The clip that was mp3 audio and avi video is the only part of the finished DVD that audio is present. I didn't know how detail to get so here is the play by play.
Captured vhs using advc 100. This produced an avi file (Clip 1)
Screen captured a powerpoint presentation creating an avi. (Video Clip 2)
Mp3 file (audio to go with clip 2)
Used mediastudio 7:
to mix Video clip 2 and MP3
insert Video clip 2 into Video clip one
Saved and converted new clip as mpeg in mediastudio
Used ulead dvd workshop to:
create video folder and burn DVD
used default setting for 8000 bitrate I got the warning about mpeg 2 not being standard format but this has always worked on my Stand Alone DVD player in the past.
Then I tried custom setting using PAL audio still the same result.
Why would it play the audio with the mp3 clip only?
Why does it work on computer DVD?
Why no joy when using PAL audio?
Last but not least why is uleads support site so useless?

I still need to know what your sampling rate is. If it's 44.1khz and not 48khz, then your standalone will not play it. Open the file in Windows Media Player and while it is playing, look at the properties/statistics of the file to find out.

The mp3 is 44.1khz (this does play in final product)
The final mpeg audio layer 2 file is 48khz however in windows media it says "unknown". I found these properties using media studio.
hmmm.. then I am not sure what is preventing your project from playing back on your standalone. Having said that, I must point out that just because it plays back on your PC software player does not mean that it is compliant with the DVD spec, because software players are extremely forgiving, and have access to other codecs on your system, if they choose to employ them.
One last point - what bitrate is your audio encoded at, and what bitrate is your video encoded at?
