authoring menu with vcdeasy

i'm trying to make a svcd with vcdeasy.i have the mpeg2 file (2 audios and subtitles)and a simple menu-press 1 for chapter 1 and press 2 for chapter 2(mpeg still).By the way i own a standalone dvd player philips 957.i have configured numeric keys with vcdeasy and i come up with 2 options.1.when i enable the pbc on the dvd player i see the menu but the numeric keys don't work and i cannot access the system menu to enable subtitles or to change the language.2 when i deactivate pbc on the dvd player i don't see the menu (the movie starts immediately)but i am able to change language or turn off the subs.does anyone knows something about it?

is it possible to choose the language and the subtitles from the startup menu?
