First, I appologize in advance if this has been covered before. I wanted to do a copy of a DVD-9 to 2 DVD-R discs, so as not to lose any image quality in the process and to learn about the process itself. I was able to use DVD Decrypter to make a hard disk image of the DVD and then I used DVDToolbox to split the files to 2 disks.
The process went smoothly and I ended up with 2 DVDs, but I lost the opening menu screen in the process. When I load the first DVD, it jumps right into the movie. In do get a message at the end of disk 1 to load disk 2, but the opening menu with scene selection and set-up information has been lost. Any ideas of what's going on?

Now, I haven't tried DVDToolbox, but if I recall correctly it was because I read in the docs what you describes: it only splits the main move and removes everything else.
The only freeware that can split a DVD9 in two parts - and even then only with a lot of manual interaction - is IfoEdit.
Open the vts_0x_0.ifo file that corresponds to the main movie. Click 'VOB extras'
Check options: 'Correct vob unit','Correct original IFO','Create new IFO','Split to 2 DVD-R','Create subfolders'
Check Expert options: 'Remove P-UOps','Remove Macrovision','Adjust vob-unit pointers','Adjust Audio/Subp-pointers'
Choose a suitable destination directory
OK
You will now get a list of all PGC's and cells. Here you must guess where the most suitable place for splitting is, there is no guarantee how large the files will be in the end. Just mark a line in the middle of the movie.
Check 'Correct IFO tables'
SPLIT IT!
When IFO-Edit is finished, close it.
Copy (almost) all *.ifo, *.bup vts_0y_0.vob to the two final directories. Do not overwrite the files created by IFO-Edit.
Then move the remaining vts_0y_1.vob vts_0y_2.vob etc to one of the Disc1/Disc2 directories. Put them so neither directory exceeds 4400MB.
Open IFO-Edit again
Open Disc1\vts_01_0.ifo and click 'Get VTS sectors'. Answer yes when IFO-edit wants to overwrite all .ifo's and .bup's.
Open Disc2\vts_01_0.ifo and click 'Get VTS sectors'. Answer yes when IFO-edit wants to overwrite all .ifo's and .bup's.
Now you have two directories, both containing half the movie and some menus and extras, ready to burn.
