No sound with 29.9XX FPS avi, Why?

Hi,
I tried to convert an AVI to SVCD. The Avi's FPS is 29.9xx (I do not remember the XX part exactly). However, when loaded into DVD2SVCD it warns me that 29.9xx FPS is not supported and DVD2SVCD will convert the PFS to a supported format. After accepting the suggested remedy the programme makes an SVCD on three BIN files (which I found strange, since the movie is only 97 min long and I expected 2 BIN files, I have checked my bitrate and they are set at 55 and 110 minutes for 740 MB disks). I burnt the image files and first of all there is no sound and there are "pixelations" in the movie here and there. The original looks OK.

I know the problem has something to do with the FPS, can anyone help with this issue?

The 3 cd's might be because you have the min avg bitrate checked in the bitrate tab.

As for the conversion problem, you might want to check out virtual dub (www.vcdhelp.com) and run it through that, see what problems that finds with it.

No, I did not have the min average checked so the 3 CD's are due to something else.

I did not quite understand what you meant by running it through Virtual Dub, maybe you could elaborate!

It would be nice if DVD2SVCD could shed some light on this issue, I would be very grateful!

Mertsi Virtual Dub (http://www.virtualdub.org/) or vdub as it is referred to in DDog's post is another open source program for dealing with movies. It does a myriad of things including analogue capture, which is where I first learned about it. When I get strange errors, I get virtual dub to open the file vdub to see what that has to say, if it cannot open it, there is something very wrong with the file. What you might have then is an mpeg2 file with an avi extension.

Vdub will also use any and all codecs on your system so you may wish to go to vcdhelp.com and download some of their codec packs.

Hi,
I opened the avi file using Virtual Dub, as you had mentioned. It opened fine and there where no problems with it.

However, I noticed the sampling rate of the audio stream was 44100 Hz. In DVD2SVCD, I have the Audio 1 downsample 48 => 44.1 checked, could this have caused the problem?

I will have a go at converting this avi again during the weekend with the downsampling option unchecked and let you know how it goes.

I don't know - the resampling should not have affected it... but there might have been a problem in the log that you missed.

to fix the no audio problem and possibly the bitrate problem run the avi thru virtualdub and choose direct stream copy for video and change the frame rate to 29.97 and the save as avi,the sound will be ok after using the changed frame rate and will still b on sync cause the change is so small and it might fix the problem with too many cd`s being output
